Chapter 17 - The Not-So-Messy Make Up

I sighed as I unlocked the apartment door and stepped in.

"Babe, is that you?" I heard Jack's voice call from the bedroom.

"Yeah." I nodded, slipping my shoes and coat off.

I heard his footsteps tap nearer and I felt him hug me from behind. "I'm really sorry."

I turned around to him and loosely wrapped my arms around his torso. "No, I'm sorry. We need to sort our arguments out, okay? We've had like two in two days. That's not us."

He sighed. "I know it's not us. But I just want you to know, no matter what, I'll always love you." He placed his hands on my shoulders and leant down to kiss me.

I smirked a little. "I'm glad." I stated, walking into the kitchen, Jack following me.

"How was work?" He stood behind me and playfully covered my face with his hands.

I laughed, "Tiring. What did you do today?"

"Ehh... After I stormed out I came back like half an hour later and then just lazed around all day."

"But you obviously paid the bills and rent like I told you to, didn't you?" I raised my eyebrows, waiting for the answer.

There was a bit of a silence before I heard Jack curse under his breath. "Yep... I did."

"Sure." I laughed, shaking my head. "You can sort it out tomorrow."

"Anyway, doing nothing all day is tiring. I'm passing out. Night baby." He spun me around, and kissed me for a good few seconds.

Almost an hour later I prepared myself for bed and climbed in under the duvet. Jack was right, him doing nothing all day did make him surprisingly tired. He was completely dead.

As I lay on my right shoulder pondering over every thought that washed through my brain, a common bedtime thing for me. I suddenly remembered the Adeline girl that entered the cafe and immediately I wanted to ask Jack about her.

"Jack." I whispered, rolling over to face him. "Jack, babe." I whispered again. Nothing. I shook him a little before I realised it was probably best to let the poor guy sleep and discuss the matter with him in the morning. So that's what I did.
