  "Hey Ajax, why do you always have your gloves on?"

"..what-"

"I mean they're always on for whatever reason- even in the pictures you've shown me with your family and I doubt you do any fighting there"

Ajax didn't expect that question, especially not out of the blue. He had just finished cooking something and decided to sit down when Kaeya asked and he didnt know what to respond to avoid extra questioning.
He was in Mondstadt because of a change of plans in what nation he'd be placed in next and decided to pay a visit to the cavalry captain while at it, killing two birds with one stone if you will.

Thinking about how to reply in a way that didnt seem off took too long and he forgot to respond as a whole

"And here you go silent, you've been way off today compared to the usual you know that?"

"Well its hypocritical you ask about mines when you yourself wear them often too"

"Fair point, fair point. How about this, if I take mine off so do you?"

"..If I don't agree to this you'll find another way wont you"

Kaeya didnt seem to really care, unlike Childe who's thoughts were already making up how things would go when it was his turn making him silently panic
It was irrational, Kaeya isnt the type to react to things like that especially not seriously.

"And they're off, nothing special really"

His hands weren't exactly smooth, but they werent very rough either. It was to be expected though, he's been a knight for a very long time and the job can get quite demanding and so handling his sword was going to leave marks sooner or later.

"Your turn now, I've done my part"

Ajax hesitated, but he'd pulled the gloves off his hands eventually.
They were scarred, heavily scarred. It made sense to why he'd cover them with his siblings being a 'toy salesman' as he puts it wouldn't cause so much damage.

They've built up over years and years of ruthless fighting and training for hours daily. The tips of his fingers were slightly splotchy, definetly a result of frostbite he'd gotten in Snezhnaya recently or when younger while playing around in the snow as children often do.
He knew it was stupid to worry about something as small as this, but Tartaglia couldn't help but get a bit anxious at the lack of words coming from his partner.

Kaeya didn't say much after that, but he wasn't blind to not notice Ajax's discomfort.
He took the man's hand in his own and silently started tracing circles on his palms, still not saying a word partually because he wanted to see the other's reaction first. He saw Jean do this with a 'visitor from Inazuma' who came for 'official business by the Shogun's orders to negotiate some things between the two nations', what he saw wasn't much but it it seemed to help the girl to relax while there, replicating it couldn't hurt anyone.

"You can be really stupid sometimes you know that? It's not like I'll stop loving you for your hands if that was what you expected only a fool would and I'd hope you dont think of me as one"

"I dont I dont- I've forgotten what I had in mind because of you again"

"You love me so much you forgot to pay attention to your thoughts"

"...I left the stove oN-"
