6. Hot or Cold

Alexa's POV

I woke up before my alarm which was unusual for me. The sun was streaming through my window as I opened the curtains and I decided to run myself a bath as my legs were pretty stiff.

It was the last day of camp at St George's Park before we had a days break and then travelled to base camp for the euros. As I lay there it gave me time to reflect on the past few weeks, it felt like I had been part of this team for ages and yet I couldn't believe the euros started in just a few days.

After breakfast I made time to head to the treatment room where I chatted to Alessia as we both got sports massages on our legs.

"I wish my legs looked like yours Alexa" she said

"Less, you're chatting rubbish you leggy blonde" I said with a jokey wink

I noticed she blushed slightly, she never has been good at taking compliments. It's something I admired about her, being so pretty and yet so unaware and humble.

At the start of training a few of us were doing kick ups in a circle trying not to let the ball hit the floor. Tooney was showing us all up to be honest she's constantly doing it when she has a football in her hands. The game turned into a bit of 'piggy in the middle' where the person in the middle tries to get the ball. Leah was trying to get the ball off Kiera when she passed it to me, Leah turned quickly but before she could do anything about it I slipped the ball between her legs and over to Lucy.

"OOOOH MEGS" I shouted in glee, running away from her

Leah looked momentarily shocked before laughing and running after me "you little!"

"Right bring it in girls" said Sarina, saving my neck

After the training session I saw Leah talking to one of the coaches as the other girls made their way inside. I felt like a kid with a crush and purposely hung back a bit clearing up the balls and cones to the storage room in the hope that I might get to speak to her before the craziness of the euros started. Eventually I just made my way inside to the ice bath which was empty by now.

As I stood in the freezing cold water scrolling on my phone I heard the doors open and Leah walked in wearing just her black shorts and white sports bra. I couldn't help but run my eyes over her athletic body and noticed a tattoo on her side around her rib cage.

"My eyes are up here Oakes" she said in a playful voice

For once I didn't feel that embarrassed as I could feel her doing the same thing to me as I stood there in an equal lack of clothing. I just slightly laughed as she stepped down into the water.

There was a palpable tension between us in the quiet room, with only the sounds of water. I could hear the sharp inhale of her breath as she stepped into the ice bath.

Leah cleared her throat slightly "so.. how are you settling into the team?"

"Really well thanks, better than I expected. The girls have made me feel really welcome.. so have you." I said the last part quietly, locking eyes with her.

She held my gaze as she moved slightly closer to me in the water.

"Good.. you won't megs me again by the way"

"oh really, and what would you do to stop me" I said raising my eyebrow

"Wouldn't you like to know" she said as she bit her lip and stepped closer to me once again.

God.. she bit her lip. I was glancing between her mouth and her eyes as I slightly closed the distance between us. I was getting quite hot considering I was in an ice bath.

The timer on my phone suddenly went off for me to get out of the ice bath. It snapped Leah out of her thoughts and she stepped back holding the back of her neck and looking down still biting that lip. We could hear people talking outside the doors of the hydro room.

"Anyway.. you'd better get out, don't want you freezing do we" she said awkwardly

I wish I knew what she was thinking.
