3. Fit

Alexa's POV

The next morning I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for my first full day on camp. I had slept really well, I think I must have been exhausted from all the anticipation of the day before. I had a quick look at the weather app on my phone ☀️ 23°c. Well, that's a hot day to do fitness testing.

After getting ready and throwing on my training clothes, I made my way down to breakfast where I sat down at a table with Mary, Alessia and Ella.

"Ello sunshine, raring to go today?" asked Ella

"Ha as much as I can be, at least we're starting off in the gym, it's hot out there today"

"Just prepare yourselves to be shown up by me. We all know goalies have the best fitness." Mary joked

I had a banana in my granola to make sure I had the fuel I needed for today. I felt relatively fit but really wanted to prove myself in testing.

Once the S&C coaches had talked us through all of the different stations for the exercises we split off to get started.

I was on the bikes with Georgia listening to her chat about a recent trip with her boyfriend but my eyes kept drifting over to a certain blonde in the corner. Leah was laughing with Kiera as they did an arm workout. After that moment last night in the doorway, I found I kept glancing to see what she was doing.

I tried to just get my head down and was really pushing myself at each station. A few of the girls were watching me do standing jumps as we were all getting quite competitive about who could jump the highest.

"Go on Oakes" shouted Georgia

"Damn you could jump on me with those legs, wouldn't mind them wrapped round me" joked Beth with a mischievous glint in her eye.

I looked up and laughed as Beth made this flirty comment, she was always joking around. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Leah look over but she just carried on with her workout.

I was happy with how I had got on so far in the testing. Although, Lucy Bronze was by far the most impressive in the gym, the weights she was lifting were ridiculous. No wonder she's such a force on the pitch.

It was now time for what we all dreaded, the bleep test. We were all feeling slightly apprehensive as we filed outside. The sky was clear and we could immediately feel the heat of the sun.

We lined up and as we heard the first beep it took me back to when we would do this during PE lessons at school. Except, now I am a professional footballer in the England squad so I really needed to impress the coaches.
There was just 4 of us left me, Lucy, Lauren and Leah and we were sweating now, each wanting to beat the person next to us. The girls were shouting encouragement at us on the side. I was really sprinting not sure I could do another beep when Leah dropped out and I finally tapped out.

I was laying on the ground catching my breath after Lauren had won. The girls were stripping down into their shorts and sports bras as ice packs and water were handed out.

I couldn't help but look over to Leah once again but when I did I felt like my heart stopped. She was pouring water over herself with her head back, abs tensed, like she was in a bloody advert. Leah looked up and held my gaze, I quickly looked away before a blush could form on my cheeks. Damn, she really just caught me staring at her.

I had hardly even caught by breath when Jill teased "You were beaten by the rookie Leah"

"Yeah yeah, won't happen again" Leah rolled her eyes and laughed

"Oh really I wouldn't be so sure" I smirked up at her

I suddenly felt a shock of cold water on my skin and gasped as I realised Leah had just thrown water on me.

"OOOOH, WATERFIGHT" shouted Ella

We ran around like children screaming and laughing as we threw water at each other. We ended the afternoon soaked but with smiles on our faces and I admitted to myself.. Leah was fit.
