pirates he met

you're at the wrong place at the wrong
     time.
in a free-verse piece, you brought
     well-thought rhymes.
in this voyage, that person spends his daily
     energy on keeping his ship afloat;
thus, he sees you as a beneficial strength or
     a detrimental weight.

don't take it to heart; he already met
     several voyagers at sea.
he learned adequate wisdom from them to
     be afraid of your kin, you see.
'cause pirates don't always come with
     identifiable faces waving their red flags;
some appear with a friendly smile and
     trustworthy facades, only for you to
     discover secrets they've swept under the
     rug.

rather than confronting them and asking
     for their true intentions of boarding his
     ship, he pushes them away—even if it
     leaves him with an empty chest.
that way, it'd hurt less.
