I stood there looking around the nursery, then at my foster mother Briarheart. She was a kind shecat who would normally spend her time in the nursery tending to her newborns.

"Oh look Sootkit had opened her eyes!" Briarheart squealed to the queen next to us.

"Yes, I see," She replied, not seeming to care.

I learned my litter mates names quickly after I had been able to hear them. They were Whitekit, Stonekit, and Redkit. They were all Briarhearts biological kits, I was the only one who was adopted. My mother Sunstripe had died giving birth to me and my brother, but my brother had died not long after.

I got up slowly on my tiny legs trying to figure out how to work them. I placed one paw in front of the other. Walking cautiously around the nursery losing my footing every now and then. Whitekit, Stonekit, and Redkit were already around 3 moons. I was only 2 moons old, meaning that I couldn't become an apprentice until they were 7 moons.

I had watched Whitekit, Redkit, and Stonekit all play a game called 'Moss Ball'. I didn't understand the concept of it. They would have to try to get the moss ball to the other side of camp I believe it was. I didn't really pay much attention to it. I had heard it was fun, but I always decided to stay out of it since it looked boring. "I am going to explore camp..."

"Absolutely not," Briarheart snapped. I flinched at her harsh tone. "Now stay here and be a good kit, while Briarheart goes to get something to eat from the pile" She got up and walked over to where I assume the fresh kill pile was. While I waited for her to return, I looked around the nursery and saw the other queen had been curled up she must be sleeping.

I had listened to the conversations going on outside or at least trying. I had then heard paw steps coming close to the outside of the nursery. Since the nursery was towards the back of camp, I had assumed they had to do something until I heard my mother's name. "Gingercloud, we need to kill that kit! She is the daughter of a killer, and after that dream Hemlockfur had about been chased by a cat that looked exactly like Sootkit means that she is destined to be a murderer like her mother was" a rough voice said.

"I understand Pigionear, but we just can't barge into the nursery in the middle of the night slaughter a kit, and be like 'Oh well Hemlockfur had a dream she would be a murderer like her mother so we just killed an innocent kit' We can't do that until we are sure, until we receive a sign from Starclan, or she shows sign of becoming a psychopath then we will talk to Blackstar. For now, we don't do anything-"

"Gingercloud! We need you to go on patrol with Duskclaw and Birchpelt" A deep toms voice cut into the conversation. The conversation was cut off there. I heard the sound of someone entering the nursery and looked to see Briarheart entering with a thin bird in her jaw.

-

"Sootkit, why don't you go play with Stonekit, Redkit, and Whitekit," Briarheart ordered. I obeyed not wanting trouble with the queen.

"Hey Stonekit, what are you doing?" I asked. Watching Redkit and Whitekit wrestle.

"Oh well I am watching them wrestle and whoever wins goes against me" He then paused thinking for a moment. "Hey how about me and you go around while we wait for them?" He spoke.

"Uhh sure?" I said not knowing much about battling. Stonekit stood getting to what looked to be a fighting stance. I just stood there not sure what to do. "3, 2, 1, Go!" Stonekit said.

Stonekit quickly charged at me, luckily, I was able to jump out of the way right on time. "Hey! Stand still" he said then jumped on me. I let out a cry of pain not expecting him to be so heavy.

"5, 4, 3- AH" He shrieked as I dug my tiny claws into his eye. As I raked my claws down his eye, blood splattered onto my muzzle. I licked my muzzle trying to get rid of it on my face. Once the red liquid had hit my tongue I had a sick grin on my face, it tasted good... Stonekit had scrambled off me and stood there stunned by my actions.

I noticed Redkit and Whitekit must have stopped because they were staring at me. Blood had run down his face from the eye wound. I didn't realize how deep it was until he was keeping that eye closed. He was also shaking and breathing heavily.

I licked my lips for any more blood on my muzzle. One of the warriors had walked over to us and saw Stonekits wound and quickly looked at all of us, once her eyes landed on me, she snarled. "YOU! Kits go with your mother. I need to talk to Sootkit and take Stonekit to Hemlockfur" She quickly picked up Stonekit and hurried off leaving me behind. I looked around camp hoping that no one to notice my muzzle that must have had blood streaks on.

"Sootkit!" a loud voice said behind me, Oh no... I turned around to look at Briarheart. She had snarled at me and looked like she could kill me. "WHAT THE HELL WRONG WITH YOU? WHY COULDN'T BLACKSTAR JUST KILL YOU?! And not give me a kit like you, you should be dead... like your brother and mother" I stood there frozen as she fumed.

I quickly turned tears threatening to fall. I walked away towards the back of the camp to the elders' den. I noticed that Orchidwhisker was there, so I decided to look around for a different place.

When I finally found one it wasn't the best, but it was pretty well hidden. It was behind the elders' den. I curled up not wanting to be here, she said I should be dead.

Maybe you should be A voice whispering to me. I looked around, oh don't bother looking for me you won't be able to find me. It was high-pitched, it was female, I think.

"Who are you?" I whispered. A friend... an old one. You might not even remember me.

I didn't bother trying to think about who the voice belonged to. I heard paw steps behind me. I looked up to see the white tom with yellow eyes... Whitekit...

"Hey Sootkit," he said with a toothy grin, I glared at him rubbing my face in my paws making sure there weren't any tear stains on my pelt. He sat down next to me cautiously. "I know you didn't mean to injure Stonekit, I understand it was an accident. He should have told you the rules or knew you didn't know what the rules were," he said quietly. "Let's go get something to eat.'' He smiled at me. I nodded following him to the pile.

-

After we had eaten, I wanted to make sure Stonekit was ok, so I decided to ask Whitekit. "Hey, could we go check on Stonekit?" He nodded.

"O-ok... let go" We quickly dashed the medicine and weaved between the cats. Once we entered, I immediately saw Briarheart, Redkit, another shecat I had seen come in and out of the nursery and say 'hello' to Briarhearts kit and Briarheart herself.

That shecat had whipped around and glared at me and was quick to snap at me "Get away from my son you bitch!" The shecat snarled. "Duskclaw calm down, she hasn't caused any harm to me yet," Whitekit said trying to defend me. "I don't care she's the daughter of a murderer. And I don't want any of my kits being slaughtered or killed. Especially by that" Duskclaw spat.

"I should go..." I turned around quickly and walked away.
