"Lily!" Thomas runs to her on the second day back in school. She hadn't seen him on the first day. "Something's wrong."
He sounds worried and stressed. The kids in the hallway also seem panicked. Whispers fill the area and a teacher storms out into the hallway.
"Everyone must follow me!" She yells over the noise.
"What's happening?" Lily asks him.
"I don't know." He replies, looking around. "Stay close to me."
"I like that a plan." She looks around too. Nothing seems out of order besides the panicking kids around them.
A door slams laude open, but they can't see over there through all the students. The slam is too loud to be an accident. The kids start to scatter in all directions.
"Run." Thomas grabs Lily's hand, yanking her forward with him. "Someone's in the school."
He looks back at the figure in black who opened the door. "He's got a gun."
Lily gasps. A few of the parents come rushing inside to discover what the matter is. They're screaming their child's name. The teachers and staff are trying to herd the crowds down the sets of stairs.
A gun shot sounds loudly, knocking everyone dead silent. It misses and hits no one. It is a miracle. How can the guy miss with such a big target of people? Lily knows why. It's the same reason he's in a school with a gun. The man is either drunk or on drugs.
"Thomas..." She squeezes his hand tighter. "We need to go!"
"Lily! Thomas!" Their parent's voices come from an unknown spot in the background. Lily searches around until she finds her mom and dad and Thomas's mom and dad running towards them.
"Thomas!" Lily screams as the man suddenly shows up behind her and grabs her by the arms, but by the time Thomas looks back, the man has already pulled her mostly to the door he'd come in at. Before he or anyone else can run to her, the crowd pushes them on and there's no way to get back through it.
Lily twists and turns. His grip is strong. She needs to escape quickly or he might use his gun. As fast as possible, she walks her feet up the front of the stranger's leg till she reaches his knees and pushes off. Yelping in pain, the man lets go.
It was a quick escape. She runs. She runs with every bit of her willpower and never looks back. She runs through the slammed open door and through the school to follow the rest of the people.
When she gets to the doors that lead down stairs and out, there locked. She knows she's done for. They must have locked them so the stranger couldn't follow. She hears police sirens outside, but she knows the man will find her faster then they do. As she expected, the stranger comes barging in, but he's not alone. He's got a hold of Thomas.
