Training between Luna and Adam continued relentlessly, at some point it wasn't even training anymore, just a cute excuse to spend time with each other. On Friday, one day before the full moon, they lingered after class.
The classroom was bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, casting long shadows that danced across the room. They sat by the window, their eyes reflecting the hues of the approaching twilight.
Adam broke the silence first. "I can feel it, you know. The power of the moon. It's like this strange energy is pulling at me, changing me from the inside out. Do you feel it too?"
Luna nodded, her gaze fixed on the horizon. "Yeah... Every full moon, the power intensifies. It's something every werewolf feels deeply."
Adam turned to her, curiosity burning in his eyes. "Luna, you've been teaching me so much, but I still don't know much about you. Why are you really here?"
Luna took a deep breath, the weight of her mission settling on her shoulders. "I was sent here to stop rogue werewolves from taking the crown of an ancient warrior werewolf king, the first of our kind. If they obtain it, their power will be unprecedented. It's a dangerous mission, but I had no choice."
Adam's eyes widened. "The crown of an ancient king? That sounds... overwhelming. Why you?"
"Because my mother is the Alpha of my pack. She wanted me to come." Luna hesitated, then continued, "There's more. It's rumored that one of the last descendants of the ancient king is here at this school. Only the descendants can inherit his great power and potentially break the curse of the werewolf."
Adam felt a glimmer of hope stir within him. "Break the curse? That's possible?"
Luna nodded. "It's possible, but incredibly difficult. I haven't found the descendant yet, but I'm still searching."
Adam's voice was filled with determination. "If I could, I'd end this curse myself. I don't want anyone else to go through this."
Luna looked at him, a soft smile playing on her lips. "You have a good heart, Adam. and I think I'm fond of that idea." She paused before asking, "So now tell me something about you. Why were you a vegetarian? I still can't wrap my head around that."
Adam chuckled, a bit embarrassed. "Well, if you must know, my mom was vegetarian. She had these weird beliefs about animals having feelings and stuff, like a true white woman." Adam smiled, reminiscing all the good memories he had of his mother before his smile slowly faded. "When she died, I was heartbroken to lose her. I switched to being vegetarian so I'd always have a part of her with me, you know."
Luna sympathized with him, feeling a bit guilty for having taken that away from him. "I'm really sorry to hear that..."
"Don't be, that's part of life... Besides, she wouldn't want me sitting around being sad. She'd want me to live my best life, like how she did. She's gone, but I'm here... I gotta live on for her." Adam said, forcing a smile on his face. Luna felt so emotionally connected in that moment. She didn't think a person could have such a strong heart; she figured there was more to Adam than meets the eye.
"Well, on a totally unrelated note, I didn't know you had a white parent," Luna teased, trying to lighten the mood.
"What?" Adam asked, his smile a bit brighter.
"I mean, you're black, so I just assumed—" she began with a giggle.
"So, you just assuming things now, huh?" Adam interrupted. "I mean, how else would this chocolate be so fine and brown?" Adam teased. Luna was laughing her heart out at this point. "This is milk and dark chocolate right here, mixed together. Best you'll ever see," Adam said triumphantly.
