Oakley and Mia's friendship continued to blossom as they spent more time together. They would often stay after school, working on new sketches or brainstorming ideas for their next graphic novel. Oakley felt like he could talk to Mia about anything, and he cherished the time they spent together.
But as their friendship grew, Oakley started to feel a strange fluttering in his chest whenever he was around Mia. He couldn't explain it, but he knew that it was something different than he had ever felt before.
At first, he tried to ignore the feeling, thinking that it was just a passing phase. But as the days went by, the fluttering grew stronger, and he found himself thinking about Mia more and more often.
He started to notice things about her that he had never paid attention to before. He admired the way she would scrunch up her nose when she was concentrating, and the way her hair would fall in her face when she was deep in thought. He found himself wanting to be near her all the time, to bask in her presence and soak up her creativity.
But he didn't know what to do with these feelings. He was afraid that if he told Mia how he felt, it would ruin their friendship. And he didn't want to risk losing her, not when she meant so much to him.
One day, they were sitting in the park, sketching in their notebooks. Mia was drawing a portrait of a couple sitting on a nearby bench, and Oakley was doodling random shapes and patterns.
Suddenly, Mia looked up at him and smiled. "You know, Oakley, you're one of my best friends," she said. "I'm so grateful to have you in my life."
Oakley felt his heart skip a beat. He wanted to tell her how he felt, to pour out his heart and tell her that he had fallen for her. But he couldn't find the words.
Instead, he smiled back at her, feeling a mix of happiness and sadness wash over him. He was grateful for their friendship too, but he wished that there could be something more.
As they packed up their sketchbooks and started to head home, Oakley made a silent vow to himself. He would find a way to tell Mia how he felt, no matter what the consequences. He couldn't keep these feelings bottled up inside him any longer. It was time to take a risk and see where his heart would lead him.
