SEVEN. the very first night

HUNTER'S BALLS must've dropped that night because he was able to ask Maddie to the homecoming dance with no problem at all and she said yes.

So, Rhonda, Michelle, and Maddie ran their hands through the plethora of dresses and suits that Michelle would take up to fit them before the dance that night.

"Is this dust or dandruff?" Rhonda questioned.

"Ghosts can have allergies. That's good to know." Maddie sighed.

"Charley can't peanut M&M's." Michelle said, "He'll stay swell up if he eats 'em."

"Really?" Maddie questioned.

"Yeah." Rhonda sighed, "So are you thinking dress or suit?"

Maddie grabbed a red dress from the rack and held it close to her body.

"Dress." She smiled.

"Well, that's a statement for a homecoming dance. Surprised you'd go frilly— that's really."

Maddie chuckled, "I'm surprised you're going to this thing at all. It doesn't totally track with you. Well, how can one revolt if they've never assimilated?"

"She gives that same weak reasoning every year." Michelle smiled.

"I guess I'm just surprised you guys are throwing yourselves into this. You know, Hunter's acting like it's first time he's ever even heard of a dance."

"Yeah, well, he went to the dance with Michelle once and that was the last time he had a date. So brava, I suppose, for helping him tackle this unfinished business." Rhonda sighed, "Wally soon came and it was over for him. We don't always get second chances on this side."

"I have a question, but you guys can't laugh." Maddie said.

"Okay, well, I can't guarantee anything, but shoot." Rhonda said.

A beat of silence passed before Maddie quipped once more, "Can ghost have sex?"

Rhonda and Michelle looked at each other with a smile before chuckling.
