MENTOR BIO
My backstory:
Hi, my name is Melanie and I'm a 23 year-old writer living in Boston, Massachusetts. I also work full-time in consulting at the moment. I was raised by my parents who both got remarried, which also made me the youngest of seven siblings! I'm extremely close with my siblings, and you'll see a lot of our stories in my own writing. I started taking writing more seriously in college, where I wrote "Just for Tonight. That book won a Watty in the Romance Category in 2021. It then joined the Paid Program a few months later in April. Finally, to my astonishment, Wattpad then reached out offering a publishing deal with their adult imprint, W by Wattpad.
If we work together, I'll be sure to tell you the story. Here's a teaser: It started when I got pooped on by a bird in Spain and then was driving myself to urgent care with broken ribs back in the United States.
I adore Wattpad. I grew up on it, signing up for the app when I was 14. It's a genuine honor to be so involved in the community. Having joined the Creator Program as well, it's only fueled my love for Wattpad. My hope is to help people accomplish the same as I have. I want to help people figure out what opportunities they currently have, which ones they want, and how to achieve those hopes. That's what I did, and I really wanna help other writers!
My favorite things and stuff:
I've been in fandoms since I was 12. I started in the House of Anubis fandom on Instagram, and have made my way through everything from Harry Potter, to Marvel, and just about any TV show you can think of. My current obsession is the Marauders, and I am big on found family! I love Taylor Swift and Conan Gray, I'm love music that provokes emotions. My favorite books are Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Beach Read by Emily Henry, and Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.
My mentoring style:
As someone who spent years editing their friend's essays, I certainly have an editing style that works for me. I like going line by line with work and figuring out areas for improvement. But I also am going to look at the story as a whole— its pacing, the character development, and how cohesive it is. I love character development, and I think it's really important that it's illustrated effectively. I'll be big on defining if your book is character driven or plot driven and how that plays into the story overall.
