Slowly, Sam opened his laptop and turned it a little, so I could see the screen from where I sat by his bed. The website looked similar to some popular social media sites, with a live feed, and a little chat box that popped up in the bottom corner.
I felt my eyebrows rise as I glanced at him. "Direwolf?"
"Yeah." Sam smiled bashfully. "It's what people call me. I'm a werewolf—I mean, my character is. Not to brag, but I'm kind of the alpha wolf in a gang."
"A gang? Don't you mean pack?"
"Nah, there's a whole gang wars thing going on.... My pack was brutally murdered before me for character development, so in my backstory, my character was a lone wolf."
"He didn't have...any family?"
"Nah." Sam waved his hand. "His parents were brutally murdered in front of him. That's a must for any protagonist."
"Right. Of course." I smiled. "No siblings?"
"No, they were murdered, too."
"Grandparents?"
"You know they aren't mentioned, but I assumed they were also brutally murdered for character development."
I cackled as I half scanned the page before me. His news feed was filled with the most beautiful of people, who I soon realised were total fake accounts. Unless Sam was secretly friends with a bunch of supermodels and celebrities.
"I don't get it; you don't use your real photo?"
"Nah, you use a person representing what your character looks like," he informed me. "We call it our face-claim."
"Oh." I stared at the screen. "Isn't that catfishing?"
"Not really. We all state that we aren't actually these people and they're just how we see our character."
"Okay so...." My words cut off as I read Sam's status, which seemed story-based, like a draft of a novel.

Direwolf:
The gates of Ironwood had been sectioned off by the south, leaving Direwolf and Saniyya with no other choice but to take cover from the snowstorm in the caves of Behemoth. A small fire danced between them, creating a heat that slowly filled the small, rocky space.
Direwolf was no stranger to the naked form, as he spent most of his time roaming through the forest of Agden in search of his mate. Still, a low grunt escaped him as he peeled the blood-soaked shirt from his sensitive skin, revealing small puncture wounds that were seeping dark red blood. The fresh wounds were nestled by large scars surrounded by even larger, bulging muscles.
"We should take off some clothes," Direwolf spoke softly. "Let them dry while we regain our strength."

Saniyya Fae:
"Okay, but know I am very shy," she said.
Her cheeks felt hot as she stared at her wolf. Okay, maybe he wasn't 'hers' yet, but the Great Witch of Nezgarr did have a vision that foresaw exactly this. The two of them alone in this very cave. Though this place was said to be haunted, Sanya felt safe with her Direwolf. Secure.
She looked at him, drinking in his big burly muscles before her gaze met with his dark eyes. Slowly she removed her tattered dress, tugging it down as she stared directly at him. Maybe she was still in her undergarments, but no man had ever seen her this exposed before.

Direwolf:
His eyes drank in the soft, feminine curves of her body. She was so small and dainty by comparison, yet so much more womanly than he was prepared for. He tried not to stare at the way her bosoms spilled from her brassiere, but it was hard not to notice.
The Direwolf had not laid with a woman since his last love, who had been murdered before him. A curse he had to carry with him for a lifetime, that any woman he loved would inevitably die slowly and painfully in his arms, still he longed to find his mate.
"Sani, you know I can't."

Saniyya Fae:
"Shush," she whispered as she stepped closer. "I'm not asking you to wed me, Dire, just make love to me tonight."

Direwolf:
There was some hesitance, but the hold she had on him proved to be too powerful. In a slow decline, his mouth found the warm mould of her lips, kissing her softly as his palm rested on her cheek.
As their kiss ignited like the fire behind them, Dire picked her up so she was no longer on her tippy toes, since he was so much taller than she was. He guided her slender legs around his solid frame before lowering them both onto the cave floor.
"Just tonight," he whispered, for she was cursed too.

Both my eyebrows were raised as I turned toward Samuel. He was already staring at me. "So, is like...everyone cursed?"
Sam nodded slowly. "A surprising amount of people are cursed. Clearly, someone went on a cursing rampage, but, uh, I just tell myself that the entire town of Wolvernshire was placed under a curse. It's easier. We try not to focus too much on the plot holes, since a lot of us are just...winging it, so whenever something doesn't make sense a wizard did it."
My gaze darted between the screen of the laptop and Sam's honey-brown eyes. "No, I was only asking because I'm totally hooked. I want to read more. You're a talented writer."
"Oh, I wouldn't go that far. I'm just fluffing around."
"You kidding? Look at all the heart reacts and comments, people love your character. That's awesome. And Direwolf is pretty hot. I mean, he should have put something down underneath Sanya or whatever her name was, but cave sex and the whole forbidden element? Noice."
Sam rubbed his chin. "Yeah, I wanted to put something down in my reply, but realistically all they had was wet clothes...and is that better? Them fucking on wet clothes?"
I shrugged. "Better than rocks in your butt."
"Hm. I guess you're right," said Sam. "I'll edit my reply."
