"What happened to the other one?" She pointed at my bare hand.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Come on iris, talk to me."
I knew I was growing to close with Evan. I needed to stop it before it happens again.
"Please just leave me alone."
I started to walk away but she grabbed my hand. I turned and faced her. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes. She looked desperate.
"Iris, we're the only ones left of the group. I don't understand why you keep shutting me out like this."
I sighed and hugged myself.
"Why do you want to know so badly?"
"Because I care about you, I want to know why your hurting so bad."
"Fine. I'll tell you."
I looked up at the ceiling, trying to regain her memories.
"Before the world went to shit i had somebody who I cared about...a lot. Maybe more than I should have cared about somebody."
Evan just stared at me, waiting for me to continue.
"Her name was Willow and by god she was the most lovable person I had ever met.."
Evan blinked, most likely not expecting my response.
"What-" she stopped and looked lost in thought for a moment.
"What happened to her?"
She nodded.
"Me is what happened."
"What do you mean?...did you?"
I let out a frustrated laugh.
"No, Jesus Christ I didn't kill her. I never even wanted to touch her because I was so scared of my own touch and it breaking her."
I slid against the wall and dug my face into my hands. My hands turned into fists.
"She died saving me."
Evan scoffed.
"How romantic and corny."
I just looked at her. My face probably resting In a bitchy way like it always did.
"This still doesn't explain the missing glove. You've said a thousand times how their your favorite pair yet you only have one."
"She has the other one."
Evan looked spooked but also confused.
"Why would you give your favorite glove to a dead person?"
"She wasn't dead when I gave it to her."
"Then tell me that part, I've been waiting for two years for this."
I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I had no jewelry or anything fancy to give her, it's the fucking apocalypse after all, but I did have the gloves. I insisted on giving her both but she wanted us to have matching ones so people knew we belonged together if we got lost from eachother."
Evan looked guilty.
"So she has the other one because she didn't want to lose you?"
"No, I didn't wanna lose her."
"But.."
"Yes I know I did, you don't have to shove it in my face."
I quickly stood up and grabbed my backpack off the stone rock.
"Let's get going before the sun sets. I don't want to be in the way of a hoard."
"Iris I didn't-"
"Let's go."
