Tw: talk of asylums/mental hospitals (mainly just for the book summary but just in case)

(309 words)

I curl up in my beanbag chair, nestled into the corner of my room. The sounds of an asylum fill my ears from the soundscape I'm listening to. As I turn the pages of my book, I feel fully immersed in the story. I can faintly hear the rain hitting the windows. I'm at peace.

I'm able to read uninterrupted for about an hour before someone knocks on my door. I take off my headphones, looking up from my book.

"Who is it?" I ask.

"It's me," Yugo says. I smile.

"Come in." He opens the door and his eyes meet mine. He smiles.

"Whatcha reading?" he asks. I mark my place in the book and close it, showing him the front cover.

"It's called Asylum by Madeleine Roux. I'm rereading it."

"Ah, okay. What's it about?" I open the book and look at the inside flap.

"This is the synopsis: For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, the New Hampshire College Prep program is the chance of a lifetime. Except that when Dan arrives, he finds that the usual summer housing has been closed, forcing students to stay in the crumbling Brookline Dorm. The dorm was formerly a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum—a last resort for the criminally insane. As Dan and his new friends Abby and Jordan start exploring Brookline's twisty halls and hidden basement, they uncover disturbing secrets about what really went on at Brookline . . . secrets that link Dan and his friends to the asylum's dark past. Because Brookline was no ordinary asylum, there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried." He listens intently as I read the summary to him.

"That sounds really cool!" I nod.

"It is!" He looks away, a blush creeping up his cheeks.

"Could you...read to me? I like hearing you talk." I smile.

"Of course~"
