y/n stood aghast as she looked around hopelessly, trying to find someone who was as appalled as she was. but no one even showed the slightest bit of concern from what their master had just said. y/n quivered violently in the spot she stood. 'living the rest of my life cooped up? i might as well be dead. god this is just what my family had said, how naiive was i to believe these people would hold sympathy for a monster like me.' pools started to gather in y/ns eyes but she denied them- at least until she can have her input.
"but its my life! its my life that you cant just rip that away from me!" y/n yelled fiercely. "y/n dear please calm yourself.." the flame pillar pleaded reaching out his hand for her to hold onto, however she just swatted it away. "no i will not calm myself! maybe you all are just to ignorant to realise it, but i have dreams too. dreams that i will not let be trampled on by demon slayers who think they can just ruin someones life!" y/n wailed exasperated, letting fresh tears slip out her eyes. her body continued to shake vigourously.
a thick silence resonated in the atmosphere. y/n's trembling was interrupted by kagayas hand appearing on her shoulder, a graceful, understanding smile painted on his lips. "tell me about you dreams, y/n." he spoke carefully. y/n gasped a little at his ever forgiving nature, then cleared her throat. "I uh- well i always wanted to be a musician?" she spoke wearily, earning a snigger from sanemi which recieved a number of glares from other pillars. "my sister would sing wonderful songs to me ever night growing up, and i aspire to be just like her. she was so gentle, kind and talented, she even taught me guitar!" y/n said relatively cheerfully, reminising in old times. just then however, her eyes darkened, and her head hung low. "her name was Kuiko, and she was raped and slaughetered by upper moon 2" y/n began. shinobu lifted her head at this, her brain having a million thoughts at once. 'l/n's sister was killed at the hands of upper 2?? what was her name.. kuiko? shes just like kanae..'
"my entire family was destroyed by that demon. my mother was taken to his cult while i was still young and she was murdered. my father was so overcome by grief he killed himself and even tried to kill me and my sister too." spoke y/n, her voice filled with so much malice. "no matter what happens, he will die at the hands of me." she spat, blood lust practically oozing out of her. all the hashira were staring at her by now, them all thinking the same thing. 'she cant possibly go up against a demon- nevermind an upper moon..' despite the glances of concerns and hushed whispers among the hashira, she continued. "everyday women and children are assualted, murdered and eaten at this demons so called 'eternal paradise' cult. we are only at the beginning of a mass extermination, which is something i can prevent. i refuse to let my families and countless other deaths be in vain, no matter the cost." y/n finished her rant, somewhat breathless.
"very touching and all but im afraid this job is for demon slayers only, not little girls who can barely carry a gallon of milk" uzui stated, now standing with his arms crossed. although everyone was quite shocked at his blatant disregard of y/n being even remotely competent, they all silently agreed with him. "how.. how dare you speak to me like that! i behold more power than you can ever hope to have!"
"is that so hm?"
"yes it is so!"
"prove it"
goddamit. y/n knew she couldnt do anything. not without putting everyone around her at risk. all she could do was stand and stare at the ground, embarrassed and humilated.
"thats what i thought."

"its true." sanemi muttered, everyones head tossed in his direction.
"whats true, shinazugawa-san?" shinobu asked curiously.
"y/n is a lot of stronger than she looks. she somehow summoned pure light at her fingertips, burning my chest in the process. she didnt use a weapon or any breathing techniques." sanemi stated nonchalantly. y/n mouthed a 'thank you' in his direction, a unique fluttering feeling blossoming at the pit of her stomach. "if thats true shinazugawa, where is the burn mark?" giyuu questioned, his voice distinctively monotone. everyone eyed his open chest to see not a single mark to indicate he was burned. "thats because she healed it!" shouted rengoku, smiling like he was proud of her for defying everyone elses expectations.
"y/n, my child, is that the truth?" said kagaya pleased. "uh- yes! i possess the ability to heal most injuries and reverse disease, just not my own. may I?" she asked, suggesting she would like to try heal kagaya to an extent. kagaya nodded eagerly. she travelled skittishly towards the leader of the demon slayer corps, standing on her tippy-toes so she could cup both his cheeks in her hands. she closed her eyes, concentrated, sending energy towards her hands. not a moment later, her hands lit up in a soft yellow glow. the hashira stood mouths agape, half of them believing it wont work.
soon enough y/n removed her hands from his face and slowly opened her eyes to look at the results.the purple skin that once smothered his face was now lifted to sit just above his eyebrows. his pale ghostly eyes now resembled some sort of pupil although it was heavily discoloured. nevertheless, kagaya could see again.. a little.
it was as if time stopped when kagaya opened his eyes to look around. he looked at the the surroundings, the sun, his hashira, y/n, and finally his wife that stood in the back teary-eyed. she tackled him in a hug, spewing many praises at y/n for granting her husband sight again.
y/n couldn't hear any of it though. her knees buckled underneath her and she stared at her hands. "y/n are you alright? iguro help her up" said kagaya, concerned, this time able to look her in the eyes. 'wow isnt she a sight for sore eyes.. no wonder i could sense all the pillars hearts speed up when she walked out.'
"im sorry, that was just the hardest ive ever had to heal someone-" y/n spoke utterly exhausted. obanai was there in a second, his hands underneath her armpits and hauling her up to her feet. "that was amazing" iguro whispered in her ear, a light blush developing underneath his bandages. "i, uh, thank you very much." she replied, not even recognising his oddly prolonged touch.
"well i think that settles it. y/n is clearly strong enough to handle herself so heres the deal. y/n during the night you can slay demons as long as you have a pillar with you- you can also continue the search for your revenge against upper moon 2. during the day time, due to your magnificent abilities i would like you to work at the butterfly estate healing the injured as im sure you will be a great asset. is that all right my dear?"
y/n did a little victory dance when she heard this news and shouted back, unable to contain her excitement. "yes oyakata-sama! thank you oyakata-sama!" her face only reddened with happiness. "no i think i should thank you y/n. thank you for giving me my sight back" he spoke carefully, smiling widely at her. "anytime.. sir"
