I arrived at the apartament in the Loop Clara sent me to.
"So this guy threatens my family and wants to meet. He knew exactly hot go get my attention. Fine, I'll take the bait." I said to myself.
I hacked into a camera that pointed towards the apartament. On the wall it was written "Bellwether." The room was messy and full of boxes.
"What the hell is this? Bellwether." I said, confused.
I hacked the laptop in the room. There was a TV opened and I could see the text written in the screen: "I suffered too." Suddenly someone calls me.
"I knew you'd find me. You always were one for a mistery. How are you, Aiden?" - it was Damien.
"Damien Brenks. What the hell is he doing?" I asked myself.
"I hope you don't mind the games. Wanted to see if you'd lost your edge. We need to talk. And you'll want to be quick. Breaking in like you did tripped an alarm. This isn't what I had planned for us, but we're about to be interrupted. Come find me -- I'll pick someplace nice." continued Damien.
"Why would he harass my sister? We haven't spoken since.. The Merlaut." I said to myslef.
Suddenly I found myself surrounded by about 20 armed guys that came to beat me. I had to cover myself and started shooting them. I had a hard time escaping.
Later that night I met with Damien in the center of the city. He was holding a bottle of wine.
"Aren't you a clever boy! Drinks are on me.." he said.
"Damien." I said.
"Tell me you miss me." he said, wanting to give me the wine bottle.
"You had that punk call my sister." I said.
Damien dropped that bottle and it cracked, spoiling the wine on the ground.
"Why am I here, Damien?"
"I want my partner back. Me at the computer, you on the field doing the manly work... I'm here to help you." he said. -- "We both want the same thing, answers. Who attacked us? And I happen to know that you've hit a wall. Yeah, I figured. So I come bearing glad tidings -- The Merlaut."
"The Merlaut.." I repeaded.
"Uh-um."
"The Merlaut was your fuck up." I said nervous, starting to walk slowly towards him.
"Bullshit!" said Damien, fast. -- "You bailed on a perfectly good scheme. No one would have found out if you'd just stood by me."
"A six year old girl, my niece, died because you went too far." I said, nervous. That was enough for me.
"Oh you're adorable. Blaming your family problems on me. 'Damien crossed the line. He made the bad men angry.' What about me?" asked Damien.
"What about you?" I asked, pushing Damien violently.
"You're not the only one suffering! They broke my leg. They took everything from me!..Don't you see? That's what binds us together."
"You got nothing I need." I said, turning back and trying to leave.
Damien walked in front of me and stopped me:
"There was another hacker. There was a second hacker. And I know where to find him."
"Well that may be, Damien. But you can't do it on your own. You need me. Your big problem is.. I don't need you." I said and started to walk away.
"Don't walk away. This is a lead." said Damien.
But I wasn't going to turn back.
"Thanks for the tip." I said, insted, and left.

"I used to look up to Damien -- he taught me to ferret out weak code and exploit it. But I taught him how to do the same without a computer. People can be more vulnerable than their own systems. We were a strong team. After Lena, I was done with him. I didn't waste time thinking about him. But niw he's creeping back in.. I need to know what he's got on the Merlaut." I said to myself as I approached my motel room.

That night I rembered how I talked to Nicky a few months later at Lena's grave. It was raining heavily that day. There were flowers on Lena's gravestone.
"Do you know who keeps leaving the flowers?" asked Nicky.
"No. But that girl has a lot of friends."
"Had." corrected me Nicky. -- "This is about letting go."
"I know."
"We've all suffered a horrible nightmare, but.. you have to stop trying to fix it."
"I'm not trying to fix anything." I said.
"Aiden, I know what you're doing. I know you're chasing after the pople that did this. And you do that, you put us all in danger."
"You are not in danger because I protect you."
"Do you hear yourself? Aiden, why can't you stop?" asked Nicky, nervous.
"Because...I need to know!" I answered.
"You are my brother and I love you. But Jackson is my world. And I will and I will keep you away in a second before I let him get hurt. Promise me you will stop. You can't save Lena."
I felt a warm tear rolling down my cold cheek as I said: "I killed her."
"No, you didn't." said Nicky. -- "I don't blame you.. But promise me you'll stop. We need this as a family..."
"I promise." I said, holding Nicky's hand.

"Maybe she's right. Lena's dead, I can't change that. How do I just walk away?" I said to myself now in the present day.
