That night Aurora made it home safely, the pair had texted constantly; or as much as Aurora allowed it, their messages constantly transfigured form flirty to friendly
Aurora knew she was giving the girl mixed signals, it was painfully obvious, that leah must be second guessing a lot of it, but she couldn't help it
She'd get ahead of herself and allow herself to bask in the idea of this being a regular occurrence, and then she'd come to the sick realisation that this couldn't be regular unless she confronted that part of herself that she preferred to keep hidden
Leah spoke a lot about a second date, but the topic of their conversation mostly was the idea of Aurora coming to another arsenal game, leah claimed it was because she needed to know more about the national sport, but they both knew that Leah just wanted her there
The student had actually began to research football a little bit, and speak to her little brother subtly about the sport, knowing that if she didn't, he'd grow suspicious
She now knew what a hatrick was, and a free kick, how players or why pampers got red and yellow cards, however she knew of the offside rule she just couldn't grasp it, or positions, she had no idea what a left wingers job was, were they a midfielder or a striker?
"Rory, petal could you check if we have any more, milk and honey books in the back stock?" The old library owner, felicity called
"Of course" she called back standing from her little wooden chair and entering the back shop, milk and honey was a poetry book
One that had recently gotten gratification from people, typically students but what she found is that the people that were buying it, onto water it because others had it, or because it looked cool, they didn't know how to truly appreciate the words written between the lines
But who was she to judge, she just needed to keep her head down and recommend books to growing teenagers
Sure enough, after digging through she found a opened box, three books sat in the bottom of the box and she grabbed all three
Upon exiting the room, she closed the door behind her and headed toward the group who stood behind the counter
Three teenagers, and Aurora predicted it, a lanyard fell around their neck proving they were college students, a male with glasses and a perm that fell over his eyes stood at the front of the group
Wearing black cargos and a purple hoodie he smiled at the sight of her, as she herself wore her reading glasses, "thank you" he politely smiled
"How many would you like?" She asked looking over the group, one of the girls wore a little too much makeup, and the other wore some kind of hippie outfit, a very diverse group
"Two, please" he requested, looking down at the black hardback copies of the book that rested in the girls hand
"Would you like to buy them now, or look around for a little longer" she asked, preparing herself to hand over the book
"Look around" he answered, and politely she handed over two of the books to the king who took them and disappeared into the library
She could've almost predicted it, he'd take them to look around and in about five minutes he'll return with the same book she gave him and nothing more, opting to buy just that one book when he could've saved her time and bought it right now
"How was your weekend my love" felicity asked sweetly, her voice holding genuine interest as she looked over at the beautiful women
Felicity was one to only hire people who held genuine interest in books, she didn't want someone looking for a summer job and a bit of money to work for her, no she wanted someone who loved to read, who breathed the scent of books everyday
And when Aurora entered her shop, three years ago, with a face of light makeup and reading glasses, felicity wasn't one for stereotypes but she didn't look like the person to sit down and read a book
She took a leap hiring aurora, but after three years it's been proved that Aurora is actually her most loyal worker, often taking up extra shifts and wanting to spend more time in the shop
So felicity saw Aurora like a daughter, and rightfully so
"It was great" Aurora answered genuinely turning to face the older women who looked up at her "I went to watch a football game with Rudy, and I met one of the players"
"Really" felicity's voice held curiosity, she wasn't going to ask, she always had a small inclination, she had watched aurora serve customers for years after all "did you have fun?"
The older women had her hair cut short, the top laid flat whilst the sides held an uproar of curls, a shade between gray and white, wrinkles sported her face but she still looked as beautiful as ever
Aurora shrugged as her answer, the game was boring, the Sunday spent at the arcade however was rather enjoyable "it was nice, the weather certainly made it easier to be there"
It was no secret that Aurora hated sport, it wasn't just football, it was the category as a whole, physical activity seemed unfathomable to her, especially doing it for fun
"I can imagine it was the weather" felicity muttered under her breathe, a knowing look on her face as she turned back to the stack of books that rested behind her
Aurora may thrive in an academic field, however common knowledge was of a lack to her, she didn't have much common sense and people weren't shy on telling her, so although she heard the older women's words she only furrowed her eyebrows in confusion
"We're ready" a voice broke through her moment, and as she turned she was greeted by the same group of teenagers, and sure enough they hadn't picked up any books
It seems though that they'd lost a copy of the poetry book on the way, "is that all?" She asked waiting for them to address the missing book
The store had detectors on the doors that would tell them if the pair had paid or not, so they weren't too worried "yeah" he smiled passing the book over
The process was the same, she scanned the book and told them about the deals that they had in at the moment, before they paid with an awkward smile and left
The detectors didn't go off, meaning the group of three had just decided not to buy the book and dumped it somewhere, probably not in its rightful place
And it would be auroras job to locate the book before closedown and put it back in its place
"Why do they do that?" She asked infuriated once the doors had shut and she was sure she was alone "they just dump it, can't they just return it to the counter and tell us they don't want it anymore"
"That would require an ego deflation" felicity replied amusedly, she loved how angry the brunette got about her books
Huffing out a breathe the student shook her head and exited the counter, going on her mission to find the book "call me if you need me" she called back, not raising her voice as felicity didn't like that
