My personal therapy 😫
Rushing, with her heart in her stomach she knew what this meant, that although she hadn't said it aloud, her mother had understood, she knew what was coming
It was nerve wrecking, she couldn't turn back in time now, it was time to be truthful
The only relief she can find in this moment is that they know, on her terms, sure she would've preferred a better setting but at least they found out from her
Most people don't have that privilege
The taxi ride was short, too short, and she wishes she could reach out to someone, for comfort or a seek of relief, but that's the problem with nobody knowing
She was afraid, of change, the moment everyone knows her life has changed, people might not treat her different but how does she stop herself from treating herself differently
She can't exactly have that modern lifestyle and give her parents grandchildren, would they be affected by that?
Her chest ached, and her throat felt swollen, the idea of breathing seemed impossible but she forced herself to do it as she stepped out of the taxi and onto the street
Keeping her head down she approached the front door, pushing it open, she stepped through the door frame
It was silent, it always was but the silence seemed to loud in this moment, a body made itself known "I've ran you a bath, with a clean towel, when your done come downstairs so we can talk love" Paulina requested, earning a slight nod from Aurora who didn't waste a second exiting the hallway
The bath allowed her time to think, as she sat there until the water ran cold and her skin shrivelled up, her chest aching
Part of her wanted to know, to get it over and done with, to find out her parents thought process, but the majority of her wanted to run to hide, to be normal, to not have to face the indefinite future
But she had to, and so following her mums instructions she made her way downstairs, with her hair wet and the towel in her arms
"Thank you love" Robert smiled, taking the towel from his daughters hands before passing it to his wife who accepted it graciously, "do you want a cuppa whilst I put the kettle on?" He proceeded to ask
Nodding in reply, the brunette didn't trust her own voice, and a part of Robert understood but as requested by Paulina he had to wait, for the right time
Little did he know the suspense was killing Aurora who just wanted to let it all out
Words weren't spoken, but looks were shared, looks that Aurora could see, it hurt, to feel so left out of a topic surrounding her
A cup of tea was slid across the counter top spilling her way, and gratefully she picked up the hot beverage as it gave her something to do
Truth is, Paulina didn't know how to bring up the topic, does she forget about it and allow Aurora to bring it up in her own time, or will doing that make Aurora feel invalid
The words talk ran rabid in the students mind, when a parent asks to talk it typically entails you've done something wrong, or they have a surprise for you; but Aurora knows there's no surprise laying on the other side of this conversation
"Why don't we sit down" Robert suggested, the anticipation killing him as he exchanged looks between his wife and daughter "I think we need to talk"
Aurora didn't know if she was thankful for her dad in this moment or not, had she wanted to talk this soon or avoid it further? She didn't know herself
Listening, but not before Paulina stuck her husband with a killer glare, the trio sat down at the table, Frankie was out, he had been since last night and they weren't expecting him back anytime soon
"I want to start" Robert began looking between both his wife and daughter with uncertain looks "by saying, we are not mad, and it certainly doesn't change the way we view you" he finished
That alone was of a relief to the aspiring writer, she didn't know if his words were genuine, his eyes held uncertainty, and Paulina's lips were practically sealed shut
"but you have to understand, that we want to talk about it, discuss it" he probed, and Aurora could only nod, she totally understood, who wouldn't
Gathering her words and thoughts, after years of denial and hiding she was ready, "I'm lesbian" she blurted, she wouldn't have preferred to begin it that way but she needed to let it out
Both Robert and Paulina were taken aback at their daughters words, it was sudden even if they saw it coming, the openness of her words was shocking
"I have been, for as long as I could remember, I don't know when it became real to me, but I think I knew long before I accepted it" she started, her words soft but her voice holding emotion "I don't want to be like this, but I can't change it"
She'd made her peace with it, after trying to change to benefit others, after pretending countless times to like a boy, she realised it wasn't possible
"We don't want you to change" Paulina mumbled, her eyes welling up with tears as she reached over to connect their hands "we love you the way you are, but you have to understand we need to process this, and the only way we can do that is by getting some answers and time"
"I know" Aurora mumbled, her own eyes welling up; and she hated it, the burning that erupted in her eyes as the tears begged to escape
She didn't need to be emotional, her parents were accepting, they only wanted answers, but that alone seemed like too much when she herself didn't have answers
"How long have you known, really known" Robert inquired, he wasn't talking about when she stopped being interested in boys, he was talking about when she herself looked in the mirror and knew
"I don't know" she shrugged thinking back to the days when the thought of loving a women seemed so painful that the idea of spending life alone seemed better "maybe a year, two, it's all a bit weird" she stumbled
Squeezing her daughters hand, Paulina smiled painfully before asking "have you been in love with a women" the question was a must, she wanted to know if she'd missed out on an opportunity to meet the women that Aurora loved
"I didn't want to" she spoke confidently looking into her mothers eyes, the same ones she had "I didn't want to without you knowing" it was that and the fact that she hadn't met a women that made her love them
"We are so proud of you" Robert admitted truthfully his voice holding sincerity "we always have been, from the moment you learnt to ride a bike, to the day you got into university, we always will be regardless of who you chose to be, or who you chose to love, we'll be here, to nurse your first heartbreak, and join you on your wedding day, man or women, I'll be there"
The words were enough, paired along with her mother soft hands and proud smile, to set a river of tears a flow, and they wouldn't stop
Relief flooded her, they were proud, accepting and happy for her, it gave her the hope that maybe everyone would share the same view but even if she didn't, she'd have her parents there for her
The squeaking of a chair was heard and soon the comforting perfume of her mother gathering in her senses, and a pair of arms wrapped themselves around her shoulder, pulling her into their chest
Placing a soft kiss on the girls head was all she needed to lean into the hug of her mother, who rocked her in her arms like a baby
