["Kyle's Playground", 27/07/1992]
Caleb stepped back to observe the handiwork. Everything seemed in place. The sign was in the right spot, all the cables were connected and trailed to their respective outlets, the bulbs were screwed in properly and weren't damaged in any way. Everything seemed like it should work perfectly... then again Caleb didn't know much about sophisticated, electrical engineering. He had already made this assumption 3 times and have been completely wrong. When asking about it with the electricians, they had told him about all these electrical systems and whatnot. Complicated terms that Caleb didn't understand. He wasn't very educated in this sort of profession, but shouldn't the electricians be done by now? They're meant to be skilled in that department so why is it taking so long to set up a neon sign? From what Caleb had put down in his order for a neon sign to be made, he thought on a whim that it may be a complicated contraption to set up, but isn't it just a big light made up of multiple light bulbs? Why is it so complicated to set up? Caleb set aside his speculations and trusted that the electricians are performing their duties are quickly and efficiently as possible. Caleb knew next to nothing about electrical engineering as he never stepped into that industry during his business hopping spree. He had founded a variety of businesses going over many different industries, from financing companies to even a law firm, but he was never one to get involved with the work itself. Just to manage finances and executive business decisions, marketing, and employee management. He knew his way around ledgers and contracts, but he never got involved in the service itself. Now things are different. He can't just tell people what to do and expect them to do it for him, he had to learn the ropes on how things work and how to perform those tasks himself. That was what he liked about this new challenge of his. It was a step outside his comfort zone, not just because of his entrance into an unfamiliar business industry, but because he had to learn to perform the services that his business provided. He found this exciting as it was a new experience for him.
"Alright, let's turn it on!" one of the electricians shouted to their co-worker, who was standing by the fuse box.
"Moment of truth!" the other electrician shouted back in response.
The electrician flicked a few switches and suddenly, the lights of the building flickered on. The outside lamps cast a white beam, pointed downwards on each side of the buildings, double-door entrance. The neon sign lit up with a bright glow of pink, blue and green. Caleb watched in awe at the bright lights as they cascaded down on the ground in front of him. After the failed attempts to create this glorious spectacle before him, Caleb was astounded by bright and colourful lights. The neon was composed of a pink lined rectangle with rounded corners, along with the words "Kyle's Playground" in the middle, the word Kyle glowing a neon green and the Playground glowing a neon Blue. It was magnificent. It was truly beautiful, and Caleb could not have been any happier to see the large amount of money he had spent for this, pay off spectacularly.
"Well would ya look at that," the electrician who had been by the fuse box said, "Now that is really something".
"Wow. I thought it was just gonna be a cheesy, billboard esc sign, but man that is a sight for sore eyes" the other electrician said, looking on at the neon sign in awe.
"It truly is wonderful, isn't it?" Caleb said as he turned to the two electricians, "This is going to be the start of something truly magnificent, I know it".
The fuse box electrician turned toward Caleb, "Indeed it would be. Would be a shame to see something that looks this magnificent run into the ground".
Caleb felt a twinge in his mind at that comment. He had always been nervous when starting new businesses, but something about this one felt... wrong. Maybe it was because that this industry was unfamiliar to him or the unfamiliar level of effort he would have to apply when it opens, he didn't know. He usually had a good sense for when something was a good or bad idea when it came to business decisions, but why now? Why, when everything seemed to be going well, did he get this feeling now? Caleb pushed aside his worries and continued to march forth in his journey for success. After all, they had already come this far, so why throw it away now? Sam has been making steady progress with his robotic performer project. Although he doesn't give detailed reports of his progress to Caleb, he claims to be going swimmingly, saying he "wants the grand reveal to be a surprise". It sounded to Caleb like he had big plans for this project, even announcing that he's going to work on a second robotic performer. Every time Caleb visited Sam, he would always be running around getting stuff for his project. At last Caleb was worried he was stressing about it, hence his haste, but soon learnt that it was due to pure excitement. When Caleb first proposed the idea to Sam, he was worried it might be too much for a single person to do, but Sam accepted the proposal with glee in his face and now he seems to be having a blast with working on the project. He even announced the names of the characters to Caleb: Kyle the Kitten and Poppy the Puppy. Caleb had to admit, Sam had done well to come up with child friendly names such as those. Caleb decided to name the daycare after Sam's first and leading character, Kyle.
