Summer had finally come to an end and Jo and Ann had just got back from summer camp, Ann was starting her Junior year and Jo was a Senior in high school and graduating this year.
Ann was still talking to the guy she met at summer camp, I guess you could say her summer camp romance came home with her, they talked all the time on the phone and texted probably way too much during school hours. Daniel would always meet Ann after school in the parking lot and driver her home or they would go on long walks behind his house in the woods, at night they would climb this big tree and watch the sunset before Anns parents would come get her.
Ann enjoyed all their after-school adventures from finding new hiking trails to going swimming at the river and lakes, her fawn-dust memories were their camping trip they took with her parents when they stayed up all night laughing about the stupidest jokes and stacking a deck of cards on a flashlight to picking huckleberries by the creek. They had a lot of fun together just casually getting to know each other and spending a lot of time together but that all changed very quickly...
It was Daniels birthday, and he invited a few friends over including Ann and of course his parents weren't home, they were all in the basement playing pool and call of duty zombies, there was three guys and two girls one of them girls were Ann. See Ann knew a lot of Daniels friends since he introduced them at homecoming, but Ann never had seen this girl before or even heard of her before, till that day, come to find out she was one of his "best friends."
They all hung out cracking jokes and playing video games for a while longer until it was finally time to go home, Ann and that girl hit it off pretty good and she asked Ann if she could spend the night at Ann's house that night so Ann called her mom to make sure it was okay and to Ann's surprise her mom said yes. So, after everyone was picked up Daniel drove Ann and that girl to Ann's house, where they watched movies eat junk food and talked, when all the sudden that girl asked Ann a personal question...
That girl said, "how long have you known Daniel?"
Ann answered, " I met him over the summer at a camp and we kind of hit it off and one day he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes, why?"
The girl replied, "because I've known him for a long time, and he has never mentioned you before until tonight when I met you and he introduced you as his girlfriend!"
Ann sarcastically laugh's and said, "make's too of us then huh!"
Ann instantly got a sick feeling in her stomach like something didn't feel right as if Daniel had been seeing this girl before camp and during as well, but just didn't mention it before...
Turns out that sick feeling Ann had in her stomach was correct, that night Ann got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and that girls phone wouldn't stop buzzing as if someone was texting her, so Ann walked over to it since it was a crossed the room and a message appeared on the screen that read "I hope you have a good night baby I'll see you tomorrow when I pick you up from her house." Ann was furious and hurt and didn't know what to do or say, at that point she kind of felt like she did when she found out her Ex had been cheating on her, but this time was different yes she was depressed over it because no one liked finding out hurtful news but Ann didn't want it to get in her way of living her life the way it did when the first jerk had broken her heart.
Ann waited till the next day to confront Daniel, when he came to pick the girl up from Anns house, when Daniel showed up that girl met him outside and she climbed in the passenger seat of his car, Ann hysterically laughed and called Daniel over for a chat.
When he walked over Ann said, "so she's one of your girlfriends huh?" he just stood there staring at her like he had been caught.
Ann then spoke again "it's okay I saw your message to her last night I know the answer you don't have to tell me"...
Then Ann turned on her heel and walked back inside and closed the door behind her.
It was a few weeks down the road Ann hadn't spoken to Daniel and at that point she didn't even care, she was done being treated like a pawn in everyone's game, she was ready to finish school and see what the next chapter of her life would take her.
But Ann didn't know that the next chapter of her life would end up being the worst chapter and send her life spiraling out of control....
