Vacancy was lit, the guests were checking in
The concierge was cold
The water pipes had mold all over them
The room was fit for twoI woke with the sheets being a tangled mess around us. As she lay beside me, she's still in my jacket . Her chest rising and falling in a gentle rhythm as her hair spilled out across the pillow, framing her face in such a way, she seemed like a work of art.
A masterpiece.
Careful not to disturb, I reached out, gently brushing a strand from her cheek. She stirred slightly, and I held my breath, afraid that I might wake her. But she settled back into a peaceful slumber, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me-
"What are you listening to?"
I hear a muffled voice interrupting the music in my ear, and as I open my eyes, I see her. Awake. Sitting with her legs folded into a pretzel on the carpet beside me, I smile and sit up. Scooting to sit in front of her.
Elizabeth smiles, her eyes following as I lift my hand to pull out a bud. I offer it to her and as she takes the earbud, her fingers gently graze mine. so soft and warm.
Dancing through the night
A vodka and a sprite
A glimpse of the silhouettes
A night that they never forgetHer eyes fall into my lap, where I happen to be fiddling with the thin white wire. But I notice they don't stay there very long. Instead her eyes shift slightly, traveling further up my leg.
To my winnie the pooh pj shorts I'm wearing? No. She reaches out, slowly, gliding her fingers over the inked words printed on my thigh and I feel her inscribe the message: A Mind Full of Unsaid Thoughts
She looks up at me with a small smile on her face and says, "You're kind of dark." Her fingertips feel like fire against my skin, but I don't look away from her piercing gaze.
Her words linger in the air, and I can't help but wonder what she's thinking.
As her eyes fall, I feel a wave of anticipation wash over me. I want to know what's going on in her mind, what she's thinking. What she's feeling.
She sought death on a queen-sized bed
And he had said, "Darling, your looks can kill,
So now you're dead."I hold my breath, waiting for her to speak and when she finally looks up, her eyes meet mine. "I um-" A surge of emotion wells up at the base of my stomach. Is it excitement? Fear? Desire? Maybe a little bit of all of the above?
I watch her lips as if I could will them to speak. "I like hanging out with you," She says softly, fingers too, fiddling with the wire between us. "Like your fun?"
Fun?
"It feels good to finally have some fun". As she continues to study me, I can't help but wonder what she sees. Does she see the scruffy drug dealer, the twisted thoughts that keep me up at night? Or does she see something more?
For a moment, we just stare at each other, caught in a strange kind of dance and I can't help but wonder where this is all leading. What does she want from me? What do I want from her?
The sound of the door swinging open disrupted the quiet of the room.
Her attention drifts away, her brows furrowing as if she's puzzled by the sight. Curious, I place my palm on the carpet and turn towards the entrance to see who it is.
