[AU one-shot] The Grandfather: Get Milk?

It was the end of the school year for Nevermore Academy, where the students' families would be allowed to visit the school to celebrate the graduation and year-level moving up of the rest of the students there. Despite Wednesday just moving up a year level, Gomez and Morticia brought Pugsley, Grandmama, and Grandma Frump while most students in her year just had their parents attending, there were even some parents that didn't bother attending the ceremony at all.

Of course, Larissa was already by the podium opening the ceremony with a speech, followed by a contemporary piece and finally an intermission from the Nevermore choir. Wednesday was sitting with her classmates in their designated seats while her family sat with the other families that were there for their own children.

Enid who was sitting next to Wednesday looked back at the parents, "Wow, Wednesday, your whole family is here." she pointed out.

"I told them a moving up ceremony isn't a big deal, but Mother and Father insisted on going and bringing everyone home, as usual." Wedneday shrugged.

"Oh, so both of your Grandads are?" there was an awkward pause " in a better place?" Ajax asked.

Wednesday looked at Ajax, "Well, I suppose my grandfather from my mother's side is at his favorite place and you know my grandfather from my father's side is already dead so I don't think he's going anywhere. . . How is their location relevant to the moving up ceremony?"

"wait so if your grandfather from your mother's side isn't dead why isn't he here-- is he and your grandmother separated?" Ajax asked

" oh my god Ajax, you don't just ask people if their grandparents divorced!" Enid said, "but are they?"

"No, they're not," Wednesday said.

"So --- he just skipped out?" Ajax said

"He had to go to get milk" Wednesday replied

Ajax and Enid's eyes grew wide at her answer. "Oh, Wednesday..." Enid said apologetically.

"We are so sorry..." Ajax added.

Wednesday just stared at them in confusion, "Why?"

"You said your grandfather went to get milk!" Ajax said

"And he did, I still do not see the relevance of his location to the moving up ceremony" Wednesday replied

"hey idiots, keep it down " Bianca hissed from behind them "no one needs to hear your family drama"

"but her grandfather went to get milk!" Enid whisper shrieked

"oh- yikes Addams," Bianca said

"Why is everyone reacting like that to my grandfather going to get milk, also I still do not see the relevance of my grandfather going elsewhere, that is more important to him than a ceremony that isn't such a big deal," Wednesday said

Just then, Xavier arrived, "Sorry I'm late, I had to go to get milk, I said I can go later but Mom insisted I go on my way here." he said looking at everyone. "Why do you all look so sad? What happened?"

"Wednesday just said their grandfather went to get milk," Divina said

"yeah-- and?" Xavier said

"They've all been acting so strange since I first mentioned it earlier," Wednesday said. "They're all oddly invested in my grandparents' love life and location, it's incredibly unsettling, and not in a good way."

"Can we just not talk about this right now?" Pugsley said turning to them. "The ceremony is starting, what if your names are called and you miss it?"

"yeah-- you're right," Ajax said
