under the porch with vern

(Imagine: You overhear an important conversation with Vern while you're both under the porch)

       "Vern?" I called out as I came to a stop on my bike outside the Tessio house.

       "Down here!" A voice yelled from under the porch.

       Rolling my eyes, I dropped my bike on the grass and fell to my hands and knees. I crawled under the porch to find Vern digging yet another hole. 

       "Looking for your pennies again?" I asked, fully knowing the answer.

       "Yeah. I think I found them this time! Sincerely!" Vern said as he picked up handful after handful of dirt.

       I could only shake my head at his antics. He'd been trying for months to find his pennies to no avail.

       "Jesus Christ, dude. We gotta do something!"

       Vern and I both looked up above us as we heard voices.

       "That's the kid they were talking about on the radio. Rocker, or Brower, Flowers whatever his name is."

       "Ray Br-" I went to say before Vern's hand is firmly placed over my mouth. He quickly shakes his head and I know to stay quiet.

       As the two teens above us talked, we followed them on hands and knees across the porch. When they walked into the yard, I watched with baited breath as they passed my bike. Thankfully, neither of them noticed it.

       "We're not gonna tell nobody! Nobody, never! You dig me?!"

        We waited until the teens were out of sight before either of us dared to take a deep breath. Once they were gone, I turned to Vern.

       "We gotta tell the others!" I said. Vern nods vigorously before making his way to the entrance to underneath the porch. I'm quick to follow.

       "Quick, get on!" I said, grabbing my bike. I make sure Vern is secure on the back of my bike before pedaling off.

       The guys were not going to believe this!

(A/N: I noticed that I hadn't done an imagine with Vern yet so here's one! I'm trying to get my drafts up for this book but it's taking me a little while to get back into the time period.
