hot fun in summertime (t.d.) (requested) (pt. 2)

(A/N: As requested by Arianakaah23, here's part two to 'unforgettable'. I hope you like it! The song in the title is a reference to the song of the same name by Sly and the Family Stone. Now, on with the oneshot!)

       Teddy and I ran towards the water, him going towards his friends and me towards mine. It didn't take much convincing for them to agree to play army. They were tired of swimming anyhow. The four of us waded through the water over to the four boys who were waiting somewhat patiently for us. We made quick work of introductions as we were all eager to get on with our war.

       We warred in the water for a little while before Vern got water up his nose and we decided to move the war to the shore. The girls and I were quick to the sand while the boys stayed behind to talk over their plan of attack. My friends and I quickly worked out a plan of our own before taking our spots. I hid behind a nearby tree and waited. I watched from my spot as the others fought their respective enemies and waited for the perfect moment to jump out and come to their aid.

       "Gotcha!"

       My heart nearly flew out of my chest as I turned around to find Teddy standing behind me. He laughed his signature laugh as he could tell he caught me off guard.

       "Do you surrender?" Teddy asked, inching closer to me with his imaginary gun drawn.

       "Never!" I shouted dramatically before tackling Teddy to the ground.

       We landed with an 'oomph!' and waited a minute for the air to come back into our lungs before we started wrestling. We rolled for what felt like hours before we landed on our sides, face to face.

       "Give up, Y/N! You can't win!" Teddy said, gripping my hands in his own. I tried to free my hands but wound up looking into Teddy's face instead.

       Any further retort died on my tongue as I noticed just how close our faces were. I bit my lip as Teddy swallowed hard. We stared at each other for what seemed like forever before someone cleared their throat behind him.

       "Um, are we warring or are you two gonna make out?"

       Laughter from the whole group followed Chris's comment. Teddy was quick to jump off of me and I was just as quick to sit up. I felt the heat grow in my cheeks and saw a smidge of red on Teddy's own cheeks as he turned away from me.

        "I'm tired of war." Vern whined. 

       "Me too. Anyone wanna go to the Blue Point?" Mary asked.

       Everyone else agreed. We all went back to our spots to get our things before meeting back up to walk to the diner. Stacey walked with Gordie, Kristy walked with Chris, and Mary walked with Vern, leaving Teddy and I to walk together.

        As we walked, our hands kept brushing against each other. It happened a few times before Teddy reached over and grabbed my hand and held it in his own. I looked over at him but he was just looking straight ahead with a blush on his face. I smiled and looked straight ahead too.
