Children Of Light (A Follow-up of "Needed You" and "When The Road Gets Hard")

🐢A Friend...?🐢

Another morning at Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Students chattering about their latest weekend endeavors, the hall monitors staring eerily at students who had been in trouble earlier that semester, and teachers who seemed too tired to care about the multitude of couples exchanging spit in the hallway.

When Elijah and Octavia Blight arrive at the steps to the school, Elijah immediately separates from his sister. "W-wait! Eli!" Octavia calls out to him. He stops, which gives her the okay to continue "do you wanna, maybe, hang out before cla-"

"No." He interrupts her. "I want to go to class and not have to deal with annoying people. If you want someone to hang out with, why don't you go make a friend or something?"

This would be hurtful if Octavia weren't used to it. There was a time when Octavia and Elijah were basically inseparable, but that was 3 years ago. And when Witch Puberty struck, their friendship was basically incinerated.

So, with a heavy heart, Octavia makes her way to her locker with the intent to grab her books for her first class when-

"Octavia Blight, please report to Principal Bump's Office at once."

The once loud hallway goes quiet. Octavia's ears droop in fear as she quickly moves in the direction of the Principal's office. Some students stare at her, some students whisper to one another as she passes by. And in her peripheral vision, she catches a glimpse of a student being dragged into the detention pit, screaming for their life.

Finally, after a walk that seemed agonizingly slow, Octavia arrives in front of the large door. She takes a deep breath before entering. "Before we start, I would like to remind you that I am not responsible for any headaches, heart attacks, involuntary bowel movement, or other medical problems and emergencies caused by my brother and cousins." She says quickly after shutting the door behind her.

Bump looks at her, unamused. "I'm aware, Miss Blight. You tell me that every time I call you down to my office. Please just take a seat."

Octavia shuffles to one of the seats in front of his desk. In the other seat, she catches a glimpse of a student who seemed to be her age, with dark hair that faded to a rather pretty-

"This is Miss Violet. Today is her first day, and she'll be joining all of your classes. As such, I'm trusting you to show her around." Bump explains. Octavia nods. "Yes sir."

Bump dismisses them, and the two girls exit the office together and begin the walk to their first class. After a bit of silence, Octavia decides to say something. "Hi. My name is Octavia, it's a pleasure to meet you." She says, extending her hand for a shake. The other girl takes her hand and shakes it. "The pleasure's all mine. My name's Violet."

For a moment, the two lock eyes. Gold meets chocolate, and the world seems to slow to a stop. Could this be... Destiny...?

...

Nah!

"So," Octavia says, as the two continue walking, "what's got you interested in Bard magic?" She asks. Violet smiles. "Oh! Well growing up I always heard stories about this amazing bard witch... I guess I kinda wanted to be like her..." she blushes. Octavia nods. "I get that. I always wanted to be more like my mom... So I took all the same tracks she did."

Violet laughs. "Nothing wrong with that. We all look up to someone."

Octavia nods again, looking up once they arrive at their destination. "This," she gestures to the door, "is the Bard Classroom." She says. Violet 'oooh's jokingly, and both girls laugh as they walk into the room.

The bell screams, and more students start to file into the room and take their seats. Octavia sits in a desk in the back corner by the window, while Violet stays up front and waits for the teacher to assign her seat. The teacher clears her throat once everyone was in their seats. "Quiet down everyone. We have a new student, which is perfect because it circles back to something I forgot to do on the first day: Introductions."
