A fun little idea I had while writing the last one...
TW: Mature Implications
~The end of another day at Hexside. Luka and Emilyn Noceda return to their home, and Luka eagerly runs to the kitchen. "Mama?!" She calls out. Luz peeks her head out, facing her daughters "Yes? Wassup, Buttercup?"
Luka pulls a flyer out of her bag. "The Illusion Track is putting on a play and we need human clothes. Do you have any?" She asks her mother with pleading eyes. Luz thinks for a moment. "I think I still do...? If I did, they'd be in the attic."
"We have an attic?" Emilyn asks. Luz nods. "Yeah. You guys didn't know?"
The two teens shake their heads. Luz motions for them to follow her, leading them to the hallway. She stops right in front of the doorway, underneath a trap door. She opens it and out comes a wooden staircase. "Knock yourselves out. Not literally, though."
Luka and Emmy run up the stairs into the dusty attic, filled with cobwebs and boxes. Emmy looks in the corner. "Aw. Our old cribs." She says, walking over. Luka stays silent, looking for a particular box. "If I were Mama, what would I write on a box that I put clothes in?"
"Um... 'Clothes'? 'Weather Protectors', 'Body Coverings'..." Emmy starts listing names off, while Luka finds a box and opens it. "Huh. It was 'Body Coverings'."
The two start going through the box of clothes, smiling brightly at their findings. "Yeah! This is gonna be awesome!" Luka cheers. Emilyn nods. "I'll take this downstairs. "You see if you can find another one."
Luka nods, watching as her sister takes the box downstairs. She then looks around the boxes, seeing if any were labeled oddly, when one catches her eye.
'DO NOT OPEN!'
Being the curious child she is, of course she had to open it. She frowns, seeing no hidden treasure like she thought. Instead, in the box was a plethora of photos and photo albums. Luka tentatively picks up one of the photos and gazes at it. In the photo was a woman, probably in her late 20s, who very much resembled her mother laying in a hospital bed, holding a baby.
Now, Luka could have just put the picture back and kept looking for clothes. But she instead took the photo downstairs.
"Mama?!" She calls out again, running to the kitchen. "Hm?" Luz says, looking away from what she was writing and focusing on her daughter.
"Who's in this photo?" Luka asks, handing the picture off to Luz. "She kind of looks like you, sort of."
Luz's face drops upon looking at the picture. "Lu, where did you find this?"
Luka looks at her mom, puzzled. "In a box in the attic."
"The one that said 'Do not open'?"
Luka stares up at her mother. "Uhhhh... so who is she? Is she a human?" Luka then let's out a long gasp, "Can we go meet her?"
"Absolutely not." Luz says quickly, shoving the photo in a nearby drawer.
"Huh? But Mama-"
"I said 'No', Luka. It's not a good idea right now." Luz says quickly, going back to her previous task. Luka pouts. "But why?"
"One: your mother, not me, hasn't had a day off in almost two weeks. Two: You and your sister still have school. But I'll talk to your other mom about a trip to the Human Realm at the end of the semester, but right now isn't a good time." Luz explains, writing something down on a piece of paper.
