"How did he get like that?"
It was the question everyone was asking themselves as all eyes were on an unconscious Eren. Corinne looked between him and back to the others, shaking her head.
"This is crazy. He should be dead, I mean..Armin said he saw him die. He saw him get eaten by a Titan." Corinne muttered, keeping her eyes fixed on Eren upon looking back his way. Corinne had no answers. If anything, she had more questions. But she won't know until Eren wakes up. "Corinne..people will start asking questions about Eren. What do we do?"
"I'm not sure. If he can fight other Titans, then we have the advantage. But the Garrison will most likely kill him before we could stop this invasion. We have to protect him."
"No way, there's no way I protecting him! He's a Titan!" Jean exclaimed, gesturing in Eren, Armin, and Mikasa's direction. "What makes you think he won't just kill us the next time he turns?!"
"We don't know for sure. But he hasn't killed any of us yet. If anything, he seems to understand me in his Titan form. How do you think I got him here?" Corinne questioned, Jean scoffing. "It's only a matter of time, Corinne, before he comes after us once he's done with the Titans. You're stupid if you think he won't."
"Well, I guess I choose to be stupid." Corinne retorted, clutching her fists at her sides. "This is my decision. I'm going to protect Eren. I may be naive, MAYBE, but you should understand why I'm doing this. If Eren is the solution to ending the Titans, then we need him. I won't give up on humanity having a chance to win this fight. He may be our only shot."
Jean went quiet, but he still knew this was a bad idea. But Corinne was stubborn and ambitious. She had faith in fighting fire with fire. And right now, he's the only shot humanity has of blocking the hole in the wall. The only solution to stopping this.
"Now get your shit together, Jean, and think about your family. Whatever grudge you have on Eren, set it aside and fight." Corinne finished, turning away from him and looking over at her three best friends. She didn't care about whatever issues Jean had with Eren. That's their problem, but he needs to let it go, for everyone's sake right now.
"What can we do to help?" Reiner was the first to speak up, Corinne turning back and seeing a determined look written on his face. She smiled slightly, a relieving sigh fall from her lips as she did. She admired Reiner, he was always the type to step in if things were getting tough. That's how they became good friends. He knew when and how people like her needed a hand and he'd be the first to volunteer.
Before Corinne could answer, there was a commotion down below and she walked to the edge of the roof. Some Garrison soldiers had just arrived and they didn't look too happy at the now dissolved Titan body before them.
"Who was that you just pulled out? Turn them over immediately! They're a threat!" One of them shouted up to the roof, Corinne scoffing and looking over at Eren. There was no way Corinne was going to let them take him. If they did, they would just kill him, and whether they like it or not, they need Eren. This wasn't on him for what happened to him. Whatever did this, it didn't matter, he'll be a target for everyone.
"Reiner, is there any way you can keep those soldiers off our backs long enough for Mikasa, Armin, and I to get Eren some place safe?" Corinne asked quietly while walking closer to him so she was out of earshot range. Reiner looked perplexed for a moment, but his face quickly changed back to his focused expression and he nodded. "We'll do our best. I don't know how long we can hold them off, but we'll do what we can."
"That's good enough for me. Thank you."
"Are you sure about this..?" Christa stated while coming up to the two, Corinne nodding in understanding. "Honestly, no, but Eren may be the key to stopping the Titans and we need him alive. Which means..we need to keep him out of the Garrison's custody."
"Well..good luck. You're going to need it." Reiner replied, Corinne patting his arm in response and placing a reassuring hand on Christa's shoulder before she walked away, signaling for Mikasa and Armin.
"We need to go." Corinne simply stated, Mikasa and Armin grabbing either one of Eren's arms and throwing them around their shoulders. "We should get him as far from these Garrison soldiers as possible."
"Yeah, but where?" Armin asked, Corinne shrugging. "Let's just get him far away. That's the best we can do right now."
"Hey! Answer me, dammit! Who was that?" The question came again and Corinne ignored it, taking off down the street and Mikasa and Armin following closely behind. She knew sooner or later more of them will be heel to heel with the four of them, meaning they needed tp get away fast.
"We should try over by the walls. We may be able to escape over them if we hurry!" Armin called out, Corinne looking to the walls next to her. It was their best chance. As long as the Garrison didn't follow or show up, they can make it past the walls. "Then, we'll take it! Right now, I'm open to any options!"
However, they didn't realize they were walking right into the hands of the Garrison.
