She doesn't remember much about what happened, but when Corinne eventually woke up, she found herself staring at a ceiling, not the sky like she expected. She sat up quickly, a throbbing pain pounding in the back of her head immensely.

"Ah, shit!"

"Hey, you should lay back down." Corinne heard, her eyes shifting over to her left, seeing Mikasa and Armin next to her. Corinne furrowed her eyebrows, her hand rubbing the back of her head, feeling a large lump on it. "What happened? Where..Where's Eren? Where's everybody else? Are they alive?!"

"It's okay! Eren and everyone else is alive. Samuel's injured, though, but he's okay. Eren just left out to join everyone else. They're preparing to attack the Titans entering Trost." Armin informed, Corinne's eyes widened with terror as she swung her legs out of the bed. "The Colossal Titan? It kicked a hole in the wall again?"

"Yes.." Corinne began breathing shakily as she got up to her feet, Mikasa catching her just as she fell forward. "I have to get out of here."

"No, Corinne! You're still hurt and you suffered a concussion. You need to stay here and get better." Armin explained, Mikasa setting Corinne back on the infirmary bed. "I can't. My mother, she's in the city. If I stay here, something could happen to her. And I will not rest until I know she's safe. So one of you help me up so I can get my ass out of here."

"Corinne.."

"I have to go! I need to get to my mom!" Corinne exclaimed, getting to her feet once again, this time her feet stabilizes to the ground and she takes a few small steps before she begins walking normally again.

"Corinne, the doctors won't let you leave until you've healed. We'll make sure that your mom gets out-"

"No!" Corinne screamed, startling Armin and making Mikasa flinch slightly. This grabbed other injured soldiers' attention and Corinne looked around, looking to the ground soon after. "This is the second time this has happened. I was helpless before, but now, I know what I'm doing. I'm going to go fight those titans and save my mom. Let's hope my dad and the Scouts return back to the city soon to help us. Right now, all we can do is fight until then."

"It's no use, Armin." Mikasa finally mumbled just before Armin could retort something back, a gentle yet firm hand gripping the boy's shoulder. "Corinne, we'll help find your mom and get her out the city."

Corinne looked between Armin and Mikasa, Armin gulping nervously, but he eventually nodded in agreement. Corinne inhaled deeply, the feeling of hope filling her and a new sense of determination written on her face.

"Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's get moving."
--

"Corinne? What are you doing out of the infirmary?" Connie being the first to ask as him and then all the other cadets turned to look to Corinne.

"Corinne! You're okay! You had us all worried, I swear you did!" Sasha exclaimed, the girl flinging her arms around Corinne and practically wailing into her jacket. Corinne stiffened up slightly at the sudden reaction, but soon relaxed, patting Sasha's back slightly.

"I'm okay. I'm ready to fight."

"This soon? You just got knocked out in the last attack. Are you sure you feel okay to do this?" Eren asked, Corinne looking to him with a sinister look. "If I hear that again, I'll jab the next person that asks in the throat."

Eren gulped, his eyes widened as he backed away. He knew she was serious, she did it before on Jean and Reiner. She wasn't joking around at all when she said that. She meant every word.

"So, how are they going about this? What's the plan?" Corinne asked everyone around, her eyes landing on every cadet around her.

Eren, Connie, Sasha, Marco, Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie.

These are just the few cadets that graduated top 10 with her. Though they had extremely good skills, from their facial expressions, she knew that they were all feeling just a bit anxious and a bit over the edge. This was their first real battle and this was their first encounter with real Titans. Corinne would be lying if she said she didn't feel at all scared.

"T-They're breaking us off into three vanguards, made up of dozens of squads. We'll clear our area of Titans and prevent any further invasion to the city. But our main goal: close the hole in the wall. If we can do that, then the Titan attacks will stop." Eren explains, Corinne's eyes widened slightly upon hearing the last sentence.

"Wait..what about the Scouts Regiment? How will they get back in?" Corinne asked, Eren lowering his head to the ground. "I'm not sure, but I'm sure your dad will find a way to make it back inside the city."

"I hope you're right. My mom would kill him if he didn't make it back." Corinne joked, a dry laugh escaping her mouth. That's if nothing has happened to him or her at this moment.

"I wonder what vanguard you'll be in. Many squads could use a teammate like yourself." Marco wondered, Corinne thinking it over herself. If she's lucky, she could be put in the rearguard where they will help with clearing Titans that made it further into the city and citizen evacuations. The very least she could do is help get her mother out the city and then fight the Titans. But if she was put on the middle or frontguard, it would make it a bit more difficult, but she would have to take her chances if none of her friends make it to the rearguard.

"Guys! They sorted everyone into their squads. Looks like just about everyone here will be on the middle vanguard." Jean called out, coming up between Reiner and Marco.

"Cadet Mikasa Ackerman and Cadet Corinne Jaeger!  A word!" One of the superior officers called, Mikasa and Corinne looking to each other with a confused look. "What could that be about?"

"Let's go see."
