The residents of the city emerge from their hiding places predictably furious. Their flames ignite passionately as their souls set ablaze.
"You wrecked our city and abused us for no reason! The Flame-Keepers will fall!" The brightest yellow flame of their gathering screams while taking a step toward Beatrix.
"Don't put that blame on her. It was my fault. If there is anyone deserving of your rage, it is me."
The man stops, his flame dims, and flickers.
It's interesting that I saw the flame and then the person. I wonder if the flames really are our souls.
"You were just about to kill her? Why are you defending her now?...Are you really one of them?!"
His flame burst forth even brighter than before.
"I am not of them. I am One. I will receive your rage so that I may give you peace."
"You think that means anything to us?!" He gestures a burning yellow hand to the rest gathered.
"I understand your pain, but hatred and violence can not solve hatred and violence."
Several others fall behind him and begin to charge to me. It hurts me to see their pain and sadness. It hurts because I know how they feel and why, but we can still choose to do better with that.
We have to.
The man with the yellow flames throws a tunnel of fire towards me.
"No." Kendra speaks, and the flames dissipate. Her voice sends a spark through my body that triggers the longing and love I feel for her. Though admittedly, it's much stronger now.
The man is shocked that one word made his flames disappear. The surprise registers on my face as well.
I turn to her, gazing into her silver eyes. I had never thought to use the Omega that way.
We hold each other's gaze until the invisible longing, desire, and will locked within us breaks free from our vessels. An intangible force that connects us deeper than any physical thing could. We are fully aware of each other.
We see the loneliness within both of us. The hurt, the anger, the fear, and the love. All is revealed within ourselves and within each other.
We see flashes of stars, creation, galaxies, worlds, and people across time and space. We see our parents and their parents spanning back to the beginning and to now again.
We know now what we truly look like. What everyone looks like.
The crowd froze in fear after Kendra's declaration.
I turn back to them, knowing now what to do and say.
"Be free."
I say to them as my right eye shifts to silver, while the left remains gold.
Their flames all ignite as their eyes flicker their corresponding colors.
"It feels like you unlocked something within me. I feel like I can do anything, like I can be anything."
The man who was leading the charge says.
"Nothing was unlocked that wasn't already there. It was just forgotten. It is love, it is hope, it is freedom. It is everything. It is who you really are."
Tears stream down his cheeks.
"I want to feel like this all the time." He sobs.
"Then abandon the desire. We ARE THIS all the time. Don't want, just be."
"We are you. You are us. We are free. Free to love as we are to hate. Free to bring peace as well as war. We are free to be."
Kendra finishes perfectly.
"I am free." He mutters to himself, turning back to the crowd.
"WE ARE FREE!" He joyously screams to them.
The tears of release flow from all of them as they respond in kind. The unity causes their flames to rush forth, blurring, combining, and creating a rainbow of yellow, red, and blue fire.
Kendra wonders if this is the flicker of a revolution of life or death.
I turn to her with a playful smile and answer the thoughts of her mind out loud.
"It is both."
