Chapter 3

As Linn and her friends made their way to the next class, "Curses and Death Trap," Linn couldn't contain her excitement to meet the dean after their little chat. Lady Lesso greeted them in a surprisingly friendly manner, which caught Linn off guard."Linn, you must have put her in a good mood," Hester smirked, earning a playful eye roll from Linn. Soon, other students began to infiltrate the classroom, and Lady Lesso wasted no time starting her lecture."Every villain has a special talent to defeat their nemesis," Lady Lesso began, her voice filled with sinister glee. Hort raised his hand and asked, "What's a nemesis?"Lady Lesso grinned, "Your archenemy, your story will not end until one of you is destroyed." She then turned her attention to Dot and instructed her to demonstrate her talent first. "Show me what you've got, Dot."Dot stood up confidently and focused her energy on her desk. With a tight grip, she transformed it into a delicious-looking chocolate . Lady Lesso's reaction was underwhelming, and she muttered, "Well, that's something, I suppose."Linn couldn't help but feel a little disappointed for Dot. Lady Lesso had been known to be harsh with her critiques, and Linn hoped her own performance would fare better. She nervously awaited her turn, wondering what Lady Lesso would think of her talent "Next!" Lady Lesso yelled, and Linn's heart skipped a beat. As her turn approached, she was left alone with Hester. Lady Lesso approached them, whispering to Linn without making it obvious, "Please tell me you can do better."Hester tilted her head, revealing her dragon tattoo that was slowly emerging from her neck. Linn already had her shadows summoned, ready to do her bidding as she controlled them. She coldly made her way to the back of the classroom, while Hester launched her attack on the shadows.Linn remained composed as she yawned, keeping her eyes fixed on Hester. Eventually, she choked the dragon with her shadows, causing Hester to fall to the floor gasping for air. Lady Lesso intervened, screaming for Linn to stop, but Linn only relented when Lady Lesso insisted.Class was dismissed, but Lady Lesso asked Linn to stay back. She grabbed Linn's wrist firmly, her expression worried. "What was all of that about? Why didn't you stop when I asked you to? What has gotten into you?"Linn remained silent for a moment, her mind drifting back to a memory from nine years ago.
