"Rhett," I shouted across the school yard.

His hair was a light golden color that shined in the light. He had large glasses that fell down his nose and he had to push them up every few seconds. He has light green eyes and plain skin. He wasn't the cutest guy , but he is my friend.

"What is it Scarlet?" He asked his face focused on a small machine in his hand.

To me it looked like a clump of wires and gears. He flicked something with his fingernail. The machine moved a bit and then stopped. He growled at it then went back to fidgeting with it.

"My parent's they were talking about something last night."

"What kind of stuff?" He looked up at me for a moment before looking back down at his little parts.

"Like stuff that pertains to my safety." I looked down at his hands again. "What is that?"

"A spider." I backed up.

"It's only metallic." he laughed.

The school bell rang and we ran to class.

I sat down in my hard medal desk on the top etched in the light blue paint it says "may the odds". It has always said that as long as I've been here. I son't know what it means. Mrs. Drabdy came in.

She has dark brown hair her lips are always bright red and she had on green eyeshadow that clashed with her blue eyes. She was wearing what looked like something a dog threw up on her. It was green and red and brown and yellow all mixed together that clung to her body for dear life.

"Hello class, We will have a special guest today." She slightly smiled then frowned again.

Mrs. Drabdy never joked never laughed and never smiled. What was up?

"Mayor Richardson has come to give you a special message." Her face suddenly looked sympathetic.

Mayor Richardson walked in his large belly jiggled his hair combed back or what hair he had. He was wearing a black pinstriped suit, with a red and yellow striped tie.

"We have a special message for you kids." He wiped his head with his hankie. "Please watch the screen."

The screen came down from the ceiling A face appeared It was President Rain. His hair a light shade of blue with his deep blue eyes that pierced your very soul he had a gotie shaped like a raindrop on his chin the same color as his hair. He was wearing what seemed to be a baby blue suit, it matched the rest of his blue complection.

"Dear Youth of the districts. We have decided To begin a battle to protect the districts called the games."

Just then Mrs. Drabdy burst out in tears and ran out of the room.

"We will be choosing one male and one female from every one of the 13 districts. They will go through training to learn the art of battle for they will be fighting to the death in an arena. Only one will win. may the odds..."

I looked down at my desk.

"Be ever in your favor."

The movie cut off and the screen turned blank. No one spoke for the matter of minutes we just sat there in silence this must have been what my parents were talking about the games the hunger games.
