I sighed at him and shook my head.
“He got too many vital hit’s.” I informed him. I saw the color drain from his face and he nodded. His eyes went down to his lap. The room was silent with only the beeping of the machine. I took a seat next to his bed. I feel a hand go down my back. I don’t move him.
“How is cecilia?”He asked me.
“She won’t talk to anyone. She hasn’t even come down from her room yet.” He nodded and blinked a tear away.
“Steven. Can you put the two bodies in a casket?” He asked. He immediately knew what she had done. The time it took to understand what had happened worries me. I feel the sinking feeling and nervousness all over my body.
“Yea sure.” He said leaving the room. The warm hand slips out from under my shirt in a slick manner. We heard the door closed and he got more cozy.
“How are you feeling?” I asked. He chuckled a bit not even meeting my eyes.
“Like shit.” He said, still chuckling. I smiled at him and nodded.
“I thought it was brave.” I said resting my hand gently on his leg. It stiffens under my touch. I think I've touched a bullet but he doesn’t look to be in any pain.
“How many times have I been shot?” He asked me. His eyes meet mine and I feel like it’s a trap.
“Seventeen. Three on your leg, two on your right shoulder, and the rest on the back.” I said drawing my hand back. He nods, keeping eye contact.
“So I got shot seventeen times, lost the child I was protecting along with one of my close friends, and all while that was happening, You still slept with my brother.” He started chuckling when I flinched.
“No need to flinch. I can’t do anything if I wanted to.” He said, still laughing.
“Of Course your presence is not welcomed from here on out and after this don’t even try to talk to me. Anything you want to know, ask now.” I backed in my chair a little bit.
“Did you mean it when you said you loved me?” I asked him. He sucked his teeth.
“You always ask such insensitive questions. Even on my deathbed.” He laughed to himself.
“You said to ask anything.” I reminded him. He nodded and put his hands in his lap.
“Yes. I loved you more than the moon.” He told me. He looked at his hands and kept his gaze there.
“Then why do you give up so easily?” I ask. I can see him roll his eyes.
“Why do I have to? Why do I need to wake up to find out what you did? Why do you always put us in the competition for your attention? It’s fun to you isn’t it? To have so much attention being put on you? It’s tiring for me. At some point you need to quit the game. You saw how much I loved you but decided it’s not enough. I’m done. I can’t put my entire life on your line just for you to use as a cat toy.” He told me. I didn’t have the courage to say anything else. His eyes snap to mine with such impatience.
“Any more questions?” He asked. I shook my head no while he nodded.
“Good. I pity the man who ends up with you.” He looks at the wall in front of him and I stand up with anger.
“I don’t know why you're angry. I’ve never met you in my life before today. Simply my brother's friend.” I stomp out of the room and slam the door behind me. Why did I do that?! I was happy with Angelo. To be fair though, I haven’t given Steven a chance yet. Oh, here he comes.
