Chapter 7: Healing

Today Carl can get his stitches out, and I'm not sure if he's going to be happy about it. I grab my bag and walk out of my house.

I knock on the door and Rick answers the door." Hey, Rick, today's the day." I greet with a smile." Hey, Tia, come on in. Carl's up in his room, I think he's reading some old comics." Rick tells me. I smile and nod before heading up to Carl's room. I knock on Carl's door," Come in." Carl groans. I open the door to see Carl sitting up against the pillows on his bed." Hey, Carl, ready to get your stitches out?" I ask, he throws his comic down on his night stand and nods eagerly." Definitely!" He says. I giggle as I sit on the side of his bed before rolling his pants leg up. I got my scissors out of his bag and cut away some of the string." Alright, that was the easy part." I warned him." What do you mean 'easy part'?" He asked, obviously scared." I have to pull it out now." I told him. I saw fear in his eyes," Hey, it's okay, it's just five of them. Be glad it's not a walker going after you." I told him. I gently grasped one and began pulling on it, Carl yelping in pain soon followed." Hey, hey, ssshhhhh. It's okay, it's out now. I've heard that the two on the edges are the worst to get out. It'll be okay." I said, trying to calm him down. I grasped the next one and began pulling it out. He grabbed the bed sheets and groaned in pain. I put my hand on his arm." It's okay, it'll be over soon." I assured him. He let out a sigh and calmed down a little. I gently removed the third one and he didn't tense up once. I then gently removed the fourth one and started tensing up again." Calm down, Carl. It's okay, there's just one more, then I'll be done taking them out." I say. He relaxes and I grasp the very last one and gently take it out. He let's out a small shriek of pain." Ssshhh, it's all over now. The stitches are gone." I comfort him. I take a large bandaid out of my bag and put it over where the stitches were before pulling away." Alright, my work here is done. See you around, Carl." I sigh before standing. I begin to walk out the door, but I'm stopped by baby face." Hey, are you really gonna leave?" He asks. I let my head fall," It's best not to get attached to people. You only get hurt." I tell him," That's out there, we're in here." He tells me, I turn back around and crawl on to his bed beside him." I really missed you." I hear him whisper as he wraps his arms around me in a hug. I hug him back before pulling away," I missed you, too, Carl." I answer back.

I stop laughing as soon as Carl starts looking serious." I need to tell you something, Tia." Carl tells me.
