Chapter 11: Healing

After a good ten minutes Carl was okay again." I-I will g-get get you late later..." Carl stuttered/groaned. I carefully helped Carl stand up and gave him his crutches." Just think, next week you won't need them. If you keep up on your exercises then your leg will be just fine in no time." I say cheerfully. Carl just gave me a fake smile." Love, I can tell your smiles apart, I know that smile isn't real." I fake scolded him. Carl laughed before he did his best to hug me." It really did hurt, kiss me to make it better?" He asks in a baby voice. I giggle as I connected our lips. I could only kiss him for a second before I had to pull away, one of his crutches was digging into my stomach and the bruising around my neck was making it hard for my to hold my neck in that position." Are you sure you aren't British and just took over our accent?" Carl asked, I think he's being serious." I'm not British, but I did listen to One Direction a lot." I admitted." Well, now that your okay, how about we head to the school and get you two enrolled." Rick demanded. I shake my head no," I don't need to be. Since I'm now the doctor of the community I don't need to go to school." I tolled him," Yes you do, just not Carl's school. You'll be going to the college for medicine." Rick says, like he's my... my... never mind.

We just walked out of my new school. I never thought that I would be going there, ever again. It feels so unnatural to even think about going. Soon, we're back at Carl's house." Do you want me to help you with your exercises?" I ask Carl." Sure, I can't remember all of them." Carl admits.

Carl just got carried down stairs, I just finished clearing an area in the living room for us to do them, and I also have everything we would need set up." I hate doing these..." Carl groans," Don't worry, love, you've only had to do these once a day for four days so far, now you've only got to do them for six more days. Just once a day, that's you have to do." I assure him." What all do I have to do?" He asks, I smile at him, it's only three exercises." There's only three of them. You have to start by sitting on the floor, legs straight out in front of you, and touch your toes. Well, as far as you can go. Second, you have to walk from the middle of the living room to the stairs and back. I'll help you get there by letting you lean up against me for support, but on the way back you have to do that on your own. I will make sure you don't fall, though. Third, you have to take this stretching band and work out the muscles in your leg by tucking it under your foot on your bad leg and straightening your leg out. You'll have to do that at least five times." I explained. He looked at me, obvious fear of getting hurt in his eyes." Love, it won't last long." I assure him. I help him sit on the floor, but he sits straight up with his legs straight out in front of him by himself." Alright, now lean down as far as possible. Do that twice." I tell him. I put my arm over his knees, keeping them from bending. He does what I tolled him to, and comes back up. Carl repeats the action before I helped him up." Alright, now the second part." I tell him. Carl looks at me, begging to skip this part. I shake my head," You won't be able to walk again if you don't practice now." I point out. He hangs his head, but puts his arm around my neck as I put my arm around his waist. We carefully begin walking to the stairs, with almost no complications. Once we reach the stairs Carl grabs the banister and supports himself on it for a few seconds, regaining his balance. I back up, keeping my arms raised to catch him in case he falls, and wait for him to walk. Carl shakily starts taking steps. He begins falling, but I steady him. Once we reach the center of the living room I hug him." You did it, Carl. Your finally getting there, you only stumbled once, that's your best yet." I congratulate him. Carl hugs me back," Thank you, Tia." He whispers into my shoulder." Your welcome, love, but I'm sorry to say there's one more exercise you have to do." I state. I pull away as Carl groans, but sits down anyways. I hand him the exercise band. Carl tucks it under the foot on his bad leg and looks up at me, a pleading look clearly written on his face. I just shake my head," I know this exercise hurts, baby, but you have to do it or you won't ever get the strength back in that leg." I give him one last hug before I pull away and help wrap the two ends around Carl's hands." And now straighten your leg." I order, as nicely as possible. He straightens his leg out, letting out a pained whimper in the process." And now bend it." I instruct, he does as tolled." And again." He repeats the process three more times after the second time. After he finishes he drops the band, sending the stretchy material flying two feet away from us. Carl fell back, landing in my arms, tears streaming down his face. I began rocking him back and forth, slowly, in a soothing manner." Ssshhh, I know it hurts, I know. It gets better, just five more times and you won't have to do them anymore." I say comforting him. I lean my head down, ignoring the pain in my neck, and kiss away his tears. I carefully stand him up and p
pcarry him up the stairs and into his room. His crutches were already here, so I gave him a goodbye kiss." Bye, love, I've gotta get home. I'll see you after school tomorrow." I tell him before bidding Rick and Judith goodbye.
