the name of the game.

billy's car was already there by the time aimee pulled up outside of the tower. stepping out of hers, she approached the window just next to billy, tapping on it to get his attention. he'd been staring out towards the building, the rest of the world completely invisible to him in that moment. that was until she snapped him out of it, startling him before he turning towards her.

the window was rolled down not even a second later and he was flashing her a smile as she leaned down into it. "hi, billy. ready to fill me in on your latest scheme yet?"

"yeah, alright. come on then. got some time to kill before he's done. get in." the car doors were unlocked and she circled around to the passenger side, getting in and pulling her seatbelt on.

turning back towards the backseat, she gave it a single glance, getting a quick look at the dog toys thrown back there before looking back over at her older brother. "you've seriously got to do a deep cleaning of this car, william. i mean, really, you haven't even had him with you in so long."

she could've sworn she saw him frown for a second before his face was completely void of all emotion and decided not to press on further.

billy barely even looked at her before he was pulling off from where he had been parked. "the boy, hughie campbell. he's planting a bug. then homelander's all mine."

aimee opened her mouth to speak before shutting it and shaking her head. she was completely unsure of what to say, her head turning towards the window and back to the tower they were leaving
behind in the distance as he drove off.

"okay, i really am failing to see the correlation here. how um ... how exactly does a little bit of wires and plastic kill the most powerful supe in the world?"

he shot her a look, a glare that, if looks could kill, she'd be six feet under. "it's not meant to kill him. you know that. quit fuckin' around. just need to get closer and those fuckers are done for. and i cannot fucking wait."

billy pulled the car back around to the front of the tower and after he'd parked it, aimee took his hands in hers and he turned to face her. "listen to me, okay? you're my big brother and i would do anything for you. even this, as crazy as it is. i am all in but so help me, if you get me killed, i will haunt you and i will not be nice about it." she pulled her hands away, ruffling her older brother's hair before stepping out of the car.

just in time for another man, one she'd assumed was hughie campbell, to approach from inside the building. he seemed confused, stopping in his tracks to stare at her as if he was studying something. she stared right back but her look was more dangerous. something she had learned while having to fend for herself back home.

it was like billy could sense the uncomfortableness of the situation because he was breaking the awkward silence and leaning towards the passenger side window. "hughie, this is my partner, aimee. aimee, this is hughie campbell."

aimee knew what to do next, flashing a fake badge but putting it away before he got the chance to inspect it. she wasn't that stupid. "billy, i'll see you later. we need to talk."

"uh, it was nice to meet you!" there was something about hughie that told aimee this was a bad idea. maybe the fact that he wasn't one of billy's usual types. he didn't seem like a criminal or ex military. he didn't even seem like he'd thrown a punch before. he seemed nervous. and nervous would only get them all killed.

"sure it was. don't get yourself killed, hughie."

sandy was already at the restaurant, waiting for what felt like hours when in reality it had only been thirty minutes. she couldn't help but check the time on her phone every few seconds and that wasn't helping her anxiety in the slightest.
