I couldn't sleep much last night, the thought of the England camp kept me tossing and turning. It read 6:30am on my clock so i decided to get up and go for a run to clear my head. I've never been picked for a senior camp so the idea that this could be the year scared me. I changed into my running clothes and grabbed a water as i headed out, i must of ran for about an hour as when i checked my watch it was nearly time to leave for training. I quickly headed home and jumped in the shower when i head my phone buzz. It was a text from Beth,
beth: G! I just got my call from Sarina. let me know when u get urs xxx
me: WELL DONE! so proud of you! fingers crossed i get a call
I decide not to think about the England call up and just focus on my day or else i would become a nervous wreck. As we head out to training, i find myself walking next to Leah. "Get your call up?" leah asked," wow your actually being nice for once," i replied, shocked that she isn't being rude, "no not yet, haven't heard anything. "wasn't being nice, would never be to you" leah replied with a smirk on her face "but trust me you will get a call up." This made me feel a small sense of relief as leah is the lioness captain.

After a couple hours of training, we head back inside to get ready for recovery. I'm the last one in the locker room and as i go to leave, i feel my phone start to vibrate. It's an unknown number. I usually don't answer unknown numbers but this time was different. "Hello?" i said, feeling my heart in my mouth. "Hi is this Gracie Roode?" Sarina spoke, "Yes it is" i responded quietly in case anyone could hear me. "Gracie it's Sarina, i just wanted to let you know that i want you to be part of my world cup squad." I didn't know what to say, i was in shock, "it would be such an honour Sarina" i replied with the biggest grin on my face. "perfect, i will forward you the information about the tournament soon, see you soon!" As the call ends i let out a squeal of excitement as i thought i was alone in the changing rooms. "what the fuck of you doing," leah laughed "oh nothing, it doesn't matter" i reply annoyed. "Assuming you got your call up, well done. But i swear if we end up as roommates i will genuinely kill you" I didn't know wether to thank leah or tell her to fuck off, "Thanks, but trust me we would never be roommates."

It's finally the first day of camp and as i pull up to St George's Park i feel the nerves come back. I am greeted by the staff as soon as i arrive and they show me to the lounge where the rest of the players are. "Hi Gracie" they all said. "Nice to finally meet you," Georgia Stanway said "You too, only heard good things," i replied. As i introduce myself to all the players and staff members, i can't help but feel like i'm being watched, i turn to the corner of the room only to find leah staring at me and as soon as our eyes meet she rolls her eyes. I choose to ignore her and continue to talk to Keira Walsh who i've met a few times when she played for Man City. "What's leah's problem?" Keira asked whilst glancing at leah, "dunno, we don't really get along so she probably not happy i'm here." i reply to Keira's question. "Leah likes everyone, are u sure she doesn't like you," Keira said, "trust me," i responded "we have a mutual dislike for each other, always have." Keira slips deep into thought which allows me to say hi to the others on the team.

Soon after, Sarina enters the room and begins to welcome us to camp, she discusses when our training days are and informs us we have our first game in 5 days against Spain, in Barcelona. "Each hotel room will have 2 players to a room" Sarina spoke "firstly we have Keira and Lucy, Chloe and Hempo, Georgia and Ellie, Leah and Gracie". I didn't hear the rest of the rooms as i zoned out; why do i have to room with Leah. We both stare at each other from across the room both in disbelief that we are together for 4 weeks. As Sarina finishes her talk, leah slowly moves over to me, "we obviously don't like each other so let's just agree not to speak to each other when we're in our room unless necessary." "we never speak anyway don't think it will be that hard" i replied arrogantly.
