Gracies POV:

"Why are you coming with me?" I questioned Matty as soon I got into the passenger side of his car.

"Well I just wanted to be of help"
He replied , not a complete lie

"Bullshit. Spill it" I demanded

Matty rolled down the window and lit a cigarette.
"Look,"  he looked out the window and smoked his cigarette.

I turned away from him and looked down at my shaking hands.

Matty continued speaking " I know what your feeling and what you want to go and do"

I scoff in reply, "You know nothing, so mind your fucking business"   I spat at him angrily

A few minutes passed by, silence filling the car.

had i been too harsh?

oh god, i'm overthinking it.

he's a grown man , i'm sure many women have been harsh towards him before.
But what if women actually loved him and weren't harsh?

Matty broke the silence with a "m' sorry, wasn't my place to say anything, i can leave you if-"

I cut his sentence off, knowing that he is right "no, i'm sorry, don't leave me please"

"why are you saying sorry?"

i shrug, "force of habit , i guess"

The pile of dishes in my hand plummeted to the ground. i had lost focus and lost it.
My eyes immediately search the room and notice that he is already in front of me. "shit" i cursed

"I'm so sorry , i didn't mean to- the dishes were just to heavy and they fell , i'm sorry"

He just laughed
"why are you sorry? its okay"

I released a breath i didn't even know i was holding in. he said it's okay, so surely it's okay?

"we're here" Matty's voice struck's me out of my thoughts

I look up and notice the familiar entrance of the shop.
oh god, how much i had missed my life.

....

As we both stood in the small shop, I felt a sense of awkwardness settle between me and Matty , who was standing near me. We found ourselves standing in the same narrow aisle. I was browsing through the candy section while he was looking at the magazines.

After a few moments of silence, I decided to break the silence,
"you read magazines?"

i immediately wanted to slap myself, what is it with me and stupid questions?

He turned to look at me and smiled. "No, not really. just looking" he replied.
"magazines and newspapers are for old people"

"i thought you loved magazines, hence the , face straight out of magazine, line"

Matty's smile widened " Oh, so you listen to my songs?"

We continued to walk through the shop. Despite the initial awkwardness, we found that we had a few things in common.

of course we had things in common.
We were fuck buddies for like 6 months, or maybe longer, behind everyones backs.

Passing through the candle section , i couldn't help but stop and smell most of them and putting the ones i liked in the basket.

I picked up another candle and inhaled deeply. "I love candles"

Matty groaned and rolled his eyes. "Ugh, I hate candles. They just make everything smell like vanilla or lavender"

i laughed "Well, I think they're amazing"

Matty couldn't help but smile, even though we had different opinions on candles.

Eventually, we made our own separate purchases and headed towards the exit. As we stepped outside, Matty turned to me and said, " Maybe we can grab a coffee sometime? when you settle in and everything."

i smiled and nodded. "I'd like that"
