A couple days had passed and I was able to grow distant from Rowan. It's not like we were ever close in the first place, I just avoided all interactions with him.

It got to the point where I memorized his entire schedule so I knew where not to go, but it was all worth it. Never have I seen myself so devoted to avoiding someone, not even with Clay.

Eventually, Rowan gave up on trying to chase me and completely forgot about my existence. This made me quite happy, all my hard work had paid off.

It was an ordinary day, nothing new or exciting. I was simply passing the halls during lunch, in hopes that I'd be lucky and avoid Clays group.

My peace was interrupted when a hand grabbed my shoulder and pulled me backwards. I almost tripped but was pushed up against a wall by one of Clay's friends.

"Whatcha doin Georgie? Tryna avoid us?" said Clay as he walked over to me.

I took a blow to the stomach as he stood in front of me. His gaze upon me was intimidating as a smirk grew on his face. He raised his hand at me as if he was about to punch my face but was stopped by a voice.

"Yo cousin what're you doing?"

It was Rowan to my surprise. But now that I thought about it, he's gonna change his mind and start beating me too.

"I'll repeat myself, what the fuck do you think you're doing?" He was infuriating now. All Clay did was back away from me and not say a word.

Now this is a side of him I've never seen. No one puts him in his place but I guess that has changed now.

"Let's just go guys, we can finish this later," Clay said as he led the group away from me.

Rowan approached me and lightly rested his hands on my shoulders. He then continued to ask, "Are you okay George? Where did they hurt you?"

"Oh I'm fine, it was only a punch to my stomach," I said with a smile of reassurance.

His face was filled with concern but he didn't want to admit it. Instead he decided to lead me to a bench outside to sit and we ate lunch together.

"Look, you've gotta tell me if they do that again."

"Rowan, they've been doing that to me for years. I'm used to it," I said.

He was clearly annoyed, but I didn't understand his kindness too well. We just sat in silence for the rest of lunch. It wasn't awkward but I definitely wouldn't call it comfortable. Rowan's anger was making the mood pretty unsettling.

When lunch ended, he walked me to my class with his hand placed on my shoulder as a sign of protection. I was pretty flustered the entire time but didn't say a word.

"Helloooo," Karl's voice lingered in his mic.

"You guys ready to start recording?" asked Nick.

We all said yes and started our very first video. Our plan was to start YouTube channels.

We would make fun videos and once we gain an audience of a couple thousand followers then we'd start streaming.

"So George, how's life?" Karl asked me.

"Same old same old. I did meet a guy though."

It was funny to hear Nick and Karl's reaction. They were both very excited for me.

"So who's the lucky guy?" Karl asked jokingly.

"Umm it's, Rowan, the new guy."

They both went silent. Nick and I knew Karl had some minor feelings for Rowan so I was crossing some boundaries.

"But it's nothing serious he just comes in and saves me whenever Clay is caught beating me with his friends," I said trying to reassure Karl.

All Karl said was, "Nick, remember to cut this conversation out of the video."

"Oh yeah sure thing. Guys how about we continue this?"

Karl and I both agreed and acted like nothing just happened for the rest of the video.
