Theoretical Framework

This study is supported by the theory of Sutherland (2018) in The Impact of Mental Health Issues on Academic Achievement in High School Students where she stated, “A student’s academic performance correlates with his/her need for emotional and mental health support.” On the other hand, Sutherland (2018) believed that adolescents experience various challenges to their emotional health while in their High School years and school personnel have definite access to assist youth in managing these challenges. Duncan et. al. (2021) also proposed that having lower depression and greater psycho-social well-being rates are associated with higher course grades. It is as early as early childhood that mental health problems increase the risk of poor academic performance in a student. Agnafors et. al (2020) states that “mental health issues in early childhood and adolescence put the academic performance of a student at risk of deficiency.” It demonstrates the need for knowledge and treatment to offer fair education for students.
