Chapter Ten

I have never been fond of crying. Though it seems that crying is inevitable for us humans. Crying made me feel as frail as an insect crushed beneath a shoe. Tears are just like rain, the excess remainder of what can't be held no more. And I have held more than I could for as long as my legs can walk. So for me, crying is never just inevitable but it's a necessity. So I never cry for too long, just enough to mantain my sanity.

Though I have always thought that crying washes whatever left of beauty that lies on my face with my tears. But maybe not all tears roll of your cheeks carrying beauty along with it and it seems like Prince Alexander's is one of them.

His slightly puffy cheeks and reddened eyes didn't rob away his defined features one bit. He was still utterly beautiful though broken. It might be wrong though, to admire his beauty whilst him drowning in grieve. So I shifted my position and lowered my gaze.

As another sob rises from him, the sound of the door being swung open filled the dungeon. Loud footsteps made its way to the corner where Prince Alexander and I stayed.

"My condolances, Your Majesty." Fredrick broke the silence, but Prince Alexander didn't lift up his head.

"I am truly, deeply sorry for the loss of our king. The loss of your father." Fredrick kneeled down, lowering his head to the prince.

"Lift yourself up, Uncle Fredrick." Prince Alexander spoke as he wiped the tears of his face. Fredrick rose to his feet while keeping his head down.

"Now, you wouldn't come down here just to send me condolances would you, Uncle?" Prince Alexander said as he slowly stood up and brushed his clothes from the dungeon dust.

"The death of my brother breaks me, Your Majesty. But I know how much stronger the love of a son is to his father and I believe that is more than what brothers share."

"You didn't quite answer the question there, dearest uncle. So let me get this straight." Prince Alexander faked a smile. "Why are you here?" His smile changed into a stern expression.

Fredrick seemed startled by Prince Alexander's boldness, maybe a little afraid, but he didn't let that one show. "Well, my right hand over there," he pointed at me, " I am here to pick her up."

"That right hand of yours, Uncle Fredrick, has commited a crime." He glanced over at me. "And just like any other criminal, she is being held here to wait for her punishment."

"Whatever crime has she done?" Fredrick asked, his brow lifted into a fake confused arch.

"I believe you are well aware of that yourself, Uncle. She is your right hand after all." Prince Alexander's tone turned challenging. "Also, how did you know where she is? I have made sure that her punishment will be held discreet in order to avoid chaos."

"Your uncle has his way, dearest nephew." Fredrick gave away a sly smile.

"Well I am not giving her away until she pays her punishment, so I think it's better if you leave, Uncle."

"Let's just put it this way, Alexander," Fredrick looks at him condescendingly. "You give her to me and I...give him," he gestured at the guard to bring someone in, "to you."

Aciel was dragged by a guard inside. He was weak, nearly unconscious. Prince Alexander's brow furrowed at his sight.

"Make a wise descision, Alex. Let's not forget that you'll be king in a matter of days." Fredrick pulled Aciel's collar and his head tilted back almost lifelessly.

Prince Alexander's eyes shot up in fury, his hands clenched in fists, but then a gentle, but obviously fake smile made its way to his lips. "So this is who you truly are, Uncle Fredrick." Fredrick tilted his head in acknowledgment with a cunning look on his face.

"Very well, Uncle Fredrick." Alexander tapped his shoes as if in boredom. "You are right about one thing, Uncle. I am the next king, so I will make a wise descision. And if not...," he laughed, "then I will make it a wise descision."

"You will give Aciel in and I would not let your right hand go. Is that to your liking, Uncle?" Prince Alexander spoke sternly.

"Let's not waste time in this filthy dungeon, shall we?" Prince Alexander smiled.

"This is not over." Fredrick pushed Aciel towards the prince then left with loud footsteps.

Alexander's (Sho) POV

My whole body tensed in anger looking at the person who was supposed to serve me with honor laying with disgrace inches away from my shoes.

"So this is it, Aciel? A girl over your honor? Over your loyalty?!" I screamed furiously.

I turned my back away and freed myself from the cramped dungeon. My feet hurtled over a step on the stairs to my chamber. My palm laid flat on the carpeted step as a thud boomed. The maids looked over with concern in their eyes as my face flushed in some sirt of shame I couldn't understand.

I pushed myself up, running wihtout a finish line. Me? King? A current of fear sent shivers down my spine. I dropped to the ground, my hands fisting damp grass. I didn't have the faintest idea where I was, but I didn't have to be anywhere I want be so nowhere seemed like where I belong.

"Father..." a whimper escaped my throat, tears landing on the grass. I rested myself on the damp grass, not only from the mist but my tears as well. I let the darkness consume me, falling into a deep slumber.

The chilly morning dew stroke my skin, soothing my puffy eyes. I sat up, looking around at the trees surrounding me. The sound of stomping hoofs startled me so I got up immediately to find a horse almost crashing over me, echoing a loud neigh.

"Steady there, Dexter!" The voice of a man calmed the chocolate colored horse.

I fell to the ground, landing on my elbow, my eyes still steady on the muscular horse. The man stepped down from the horse then walked over to me, offering his hand. I grabbed it as I examine his features.

I have never seen this man before, but his attire is definitely from this kingdom. He has the same height as me, but with wider shoulders and I was quite lean compared to him. He looked familiar and he had an unsettlingly familiar musk.

"Are you okay?" He flashed a warm smile. His lips parted flashing shiny white teeth. He was handsome, his feature strongly defined and eyes wise as if it has seen years life, though he looked barely thirty.

"I'm alright, thank you." I muttered as I brushed off my clothes.

When I straigthen my arms, a sharp throbbing pain spread from my elbow. I groaned as I bent it again.

"You are hurt," he touched my elbow gently, "come with me, I will help you."

He escorted me to his horse, the neighs silencing my ever questioning mind.
