Aden Evans is a Wolfblood.
Part human, part wolf. With powers of speed, hearing, smell, and strength in her blood.
Aden fled to Stoneybridge when she was fourteen to escape her wild and vengeful pack, where she met Maddy Smith and her parents, a pa...
RHYDIAN MORRIS COULDN'T remember a time he'd felt this nervous. In a short span of time, he'd gone from not needing or relying on anybody...to having someone who he could turn to and trust with anything. It wasn't an assurance he was used to having.
He knew it had something to do with why he'd agreed to go to the party with Aden. Or why he promised he'd dance with her. He didn't usually do things like that. But as he walked home from the party without having had that dance, he found himself bothered by the thought of breaking that promise to her.
So as soon as he got home, said his goodnights to his foster family, Rhydian snuck out of his bedroom window and made his way to Aden's. It was almost 10:30 when he arrived, and as he walked up the driveway, he picked up a few pebbles from the ground.
He stopped a little ways away from the house and then he threw the pebbles at Aden's window, feeling his heart pounding in his chest. He waited for a few moments and hoped it was enough to where she could hear but not load enough to wake Emma, Daniel, and Maddy.
But after a moment, the light cut on and the curtain drew back as Aden peaked out of her window. The moment he saw her, Rhydian offered her a smile and then gestured with his head for her to come down.
He saw a grin grow on Aden's face as she held up one finger to him, telling him to give her a minute as she disappeared behind the curtain and the light turned off.
"What are you doing here?" Aden asked curiously.
Rhydian smiled in response, "Follow me."
Before she could ask any more questions, Rhydian turned and began running into the woods, hearing Aden follow along behind him.
Their laughter echoed through the woods as they chased each other, running into the night, running as fast as they could. Rhydian led them towards a place he'd discovered when he first came to Stoneybridge. In the beginning, he did a lot of exploring of the land and found one place in particular that stuck out to him. He found himself going to this place every once in a while when he needed a place to relax and just be.
Eventually, they came upon the open field and Rhydian stopped, breathing heavily from all the running. Aden stopped beside him, looking around the field. It was illuminated by the half-moon and fireflies and out of the corner of his eye, he saw a smile paint across Aden's face.
"What are we doing here?" She asked him.
"Well," Rhydian said as he reached into his pocket and took his phone out, "I promised you a dance. And I always keep my promises."
A huge grin spread across her face as Rhydian scrolled through his phone. He'd thought about a song the whole way to her house, trying to figure out what would be right. And eventually, his mind kept coming back to one song. A song he'd heard for the first time pretty recently, and in that moment, looking at her, he decided on it.
Rhydian pressed a button on his phone, beginning to play a song called "Back to You" by Twin Forks and the music began to fill the air.
"Good?" Rhydian asked, a hint of nervousness in his eyes.
Aden nodded eagerly, "Perfect."
Rhydian set his phone down a tree stump beside him and then looked at her, feeling nervous about this moment. Because it seemed to mean a lot more to him than he initially realized.
"I was young so I forgot, Which was my place and which was not..."
He stuck his hand out for her to take and Aden bit her lip as she placed it in his. Rhydian then slowly pulled her in, placing one hand on her waist and keeping his hand in hers as he brought them up to shoulder height.
And just before the chorus came, he looked at Aden and smiled a little nervously, "Ready?"
Aden nodded eagerly, feeling her heart pounding in her chest.
Then chorus hit and as soon as it did, Rhydian felt his nerves fade away as they began jumping and spinning around as they danced throughout the field, laughing as they moved around together.
Rhydian then let go of her waist and spun her around a few times, which earned a happy giggle from Aden. He did this a few times as they danced through the field. The whole time, Aden had a huge grin on her face as he led her.
Pretty soon, they let each other go and they started dancing around each other, moving around, spinning, jumping to the beat of the music. Letting everything go and just goofing around as they danced wildly. Both of them were laughing, and Rhydian couldn't remember a time where he had genuinely laughed with someone like this. Where he felt this happy.
"Follow the signs, right back to you, Back to you, back to you..."
Eventually, the two were chasing each other around, laughing and howling into the night. They took turns, she chased him for a while and then he would turn around and chase her. Both of them continuing to laugh and howl into the night.
At one point, Rhydian stopped in place, watching Aden as she ran and spun around in the open field, completely enamored by the sight of her. The way the moonlight danced across her skin, the fireflies lighting up around her, and the smile on her face. It moved something in him that he couldn't describe.
"Love, lower your eyes Leave me a sign..."
As the music starting slowing down, Rhydian and Aden collapsed on the ground beside each other, breathing heavily from all the running and dancing. They laid there looking up at the stars radiating in the sky above them, catching their breath and breathing in the cool air into their lungs.
"Thanks for this, Rhydian." Aden smiled at him, her eyes bright, "I can't remember the last time I had that much fun."
"I trust the signs so I may find my way to you, Back to you, back to you..."
He smiled softly, "I had fun too, Aden."
The music slowly faded, and in that moment, as they laid next to each other in the grass underneath the stars, Rhydian felt this pulling feeling inside her chest. Things he'd never felt before and that he didn't quite understand yet. But in that moment, he didn't dwell on the things he didn't understand...he just let himself be and found comfort in lying beside Aden, who was starting to feel more and more like the home he had never been able to find.
