Danny turned to Vlad as soon as they were out of a regular human hearing range, raising an eyebrow at him.

"You're saying that Jason is also a halfa?" His little ferret nods aggressively.

"Yeah! Badger, he feels both wrong and right." Danny sighed before crouching down and picking the boy up, Vlad offered little resistance as Danny carried him back to the apartment.

"Elaborate."

"Jason feels like you do, comfy and stuff but bigger, but he feels like something fun-da-mental is missin'." Vlad yawned, leaning his head onto Danny's arm.

He cooed at the boy before looking up into the sky in thought, walking into the apartment building.

"A core, he's missing a core." He muttered, going up the stairs to the second level and phasing through his apartment door.

Danny laid Vlad down for his nap before sending a note off to Frostbite.

A coreless halfa?

Terrifying.

He flopped back onto the couch, groaning as he heard his phone go off.

He dug his phone out of his pocket and slid open the screen in a practiced motion, squinting at the display. The blue start up lights didn't flash in their usual pattern, instead immediately showing a blinking clock icon.

He sighed and let the omen be, setting the phone down.

Clockwork didn't tell him anything, he just didn't feel the need to.

A whimper rang out from Vlad's room, making Danny's head jerk up from where he was on the couch.

Had to be a nightmare.

He made his way to Vlad's room, opening the door slowly.

He sat on the edge of the bed, watching as Vlad settled down before crying out again.

Danny shook him by the shoulder, a gentle push and pull that would either wake him up or soothe him back to sleep.

Vlad's eyes flew open, tears began to run down his face. He shifted and buried his face into Danny's side.

"Hey, hey," Danny started, voice soft, "you're alright, you're okay. What happened?"

Vlad took Danny's shirt into his little hands and squeezed, tugging it toward him.

"You- you were stuck- on a- a shiny table- a-and green was everywhere! And you weren't awake! And I was- was next-" He cried, a broken and high sound that had a touch of ghostly wail thrown in. Danny pulled him up onto his lap and ran a hand through his sweaty hair, humming soothingly with his core.

"Can you tell me what is different between what you saw and what is happening now?"

Vlad shakily nodded into his chest.

"You- you're up, you're a-awake, we're both moving, there isn't any green. We're nowhere n-near shiny tables." He took a breath and sagged. "We're alright."

Danny smiled softly at him, rocking him a little.

"That's right kid, we're okay. What you saw wasn't real. That was a dream, or rather a nightmare. Do you know what a dream is?"

"A dream is when you see something not real when you're sleeping!" Vlad beamed, happy that he knew the answer.

"Right again! Do you know what a nightmare is?" Danny pushed on, holding Vlad's hands.

"A dark horse?" He tilted his head to the side.

"Yes, night can be a neighbor to dark and mare can be a friend to horse, but nightmare is a word for when you have a bad dream. A dream that's being naughty and causing you distress. And what do you do when you feel distressed?"

Vlad 'oo'ed as he bounced up.

"I go to you so you can make it better!"

"That's right Ferret! And I will do my best to make it go away. Do you want me to be by you to make it stay away or do you want to try doing it by yourself?"

Vlad rested his head on Danny's chest.

"I want you to stay."

"Then stay I will. Come on, let's get back to bed." He put Vlad down on the bed, laying down next to him. Vlad cuddled up to him.

"Night, Ferret."

"Night, Badger!"
