After eating pancakes Jason washed the dishes. "How are you feeling right now? Tired at all?"
I shake my head and pet Licorice, who was now asleep in my hand. "No, I slept on the kitchen floor earlier." I stared at the little black mouse in my hand as it squeaked in its sleep.
Jason dries his hands then sits in the chair next to me. "Why did you sleep on the kitchen floor?"
My smile fades slowly. "I got bad news and passed out."
Jason looks at me softly and places a hand on my back. "Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes talking about things helps it not hurt so much."
I thought for a moment as Jason patiently waited. "My mama said she isn't my mama and that my sister Sally was my mama, and also that papa died."
"Oh my," Jason said hesitantly "that is a lot of bad news."
"I don't understand how my sister is my mama though." My hand starts to shake as I pet Licorice.
"Well," Jason started, "from what I know about humans who do that, sometimes they say that someone's actual mother is their sister as a way to protect the child from being confused too badly or as some other form of protection. Of course they usually don't tell the child until they are much older, but it's seems to me that your grandmother didn't like the idea and so she told you as soon as possible. The real question is, why?"
"Jack might know." I say shyly.
"Why would he know?" Jason asked as he poked Licorice.
"He knew Sally long before I was born. He says Sally and his friend used to play together when they were little." Licorice has now woken up and is running in circles.
"Really?" Jason starts. "I'll have to get a hold of him and ask him."
"Will he talk to you?" I look at Jason a little worried. "I know sometimes adults who fight won't talk to each other for a long time."
Jason smiles and stands up, "I think he will talk to me this one time." He pats my head and picks up Licorice. "I need to borrow Licorice. He doubles as a way to find and communicate with others."
"Ok." I pull my bunny to me and mess with it.
Jason walks out the room and down the hall, a moment later a door closes. I hop off the chair with the bunny and creep over to the door, I peek my head out into the hall and look around. Jason was no where to be seen but there are doors everywhere. I slowly step out into hall and start walking down the hall. Each door was different from the last, each holding different secrets. I stopped at a light blue door that had a sign on it, but I can't read so it didn't stop me. I opened the door slowly and quietly, peeking into the room it was hard to make out anything. Carefully I tiptoe into the room, clutching my bunny to my chest. There are colorful hammers on the left wall, something covered on the right wall, purple balloons in every corner, and in front of me was a broken bed with something or someone on it. Being the curious little child I was I crept over to the gray blanket on the wall, after checking to make sure no one was looking I slowly reach for the blanket and raise it slightly.
Underneath was a mirror, a plain mirror. I stand under the blanket looking at the mirror wondering why it was covered. I looked at my reflection, I had never really seen myself before, and despite the darkness I could see myself clearly. My eyes are a crystal clear blue, my hair was short and brown, my skin was a soft peach color and my lips a pretty pink hue. I smiled at myself. Soon my reflection began to shift and distort, I watch as it moves and changes, slowly turning into Sally.
I gasp and stare as Sally smiled at me from the mirror. "Sally?" I look around the mirror trying to figure out how she was in there. "How did you get there? How do I get you out?" Sally simply looked at me and offered her hand. "I miss you Sally."
I start to reach out to Sally when suddenly a hand covered my eyes and yanked me away from the mirror. "HEY JASON! WHAT THE HELL MAN?"
I felt at the hand with my free one, it was large and had a glove on. "H-hello?"
I heard footsteps run into the room. "Bella! There you are." Jason sounded concerned "Thank you candy pop, sorry she got into your room."
"Yeah you better thank me, she was looking at the mirror." Candy pop released me and I look at him. A blue and colorful figure stood behind me. He walked to the mirror, bells on his hair jingling.
"I told you to put that thing away." Jason knelt down next to me and looked me over. "Bella that was dangerous."
I look to the covered mirror as Candy pop fixed the blanket. "I saw Sally..."
"Yeah kid, that's what it does." Candy pop turned towards me and leaned against the wall, his pink eyes piercing the dark. "It uses your mind against you by showing you people you care about then pulls you in and kills you."
Jason pulls me in and hugs me. "Ok Candy, that's enough details. She has been through a lot already."
"Why was she in my room?" He puts his hands up "better yet, why is she here? You know slender won't like this."
"She knows Jack, and she needed help." Jason stands up and takes my hand. He leads me to the door and I can hear Candy Pop following.
"But she is a kid! You know what slender does to kids! Not only that but she needs to understand what can happen around here if she is going to be here." Candy pop's bells jingled with every long stride he took after us.
Jason lead me down a hall to a pink door. "I understand that, and I will explain in due time. But like I said she has been through a lot and I want her to rest first." He looked down at me and smiled. "This is your room for you to play and do as you please."
Jason opened the door to the room. "Woah!" My eyes widened. "This is all for me?"
Jason nodded "Only for you my dear."
