"Wow" had become my go-to word for the past two hours since landing in Cape Town. The people were incredibly warm and welcoming, and the views? Absolutely world-class.
Honestly, I'd expected jungles or endless desert landscapes—but what I found was nearly impossible to put into words. The beauty here is breathtaking. It's hard to understand why so many misconceptions about Africa exist, especially when places like this rival some of the most developed cities in the world.
My mind was still trying to catch up with everything my eyes were taking in—stunning architecture blending historical charm with modern design, lush greenery, majestic mountains, and beaches with soft, white sand. It felt like a first-world country. Sure, poverty exists here, but poverty exists everywhere. What struck me most was how happy people seemed, regardless of their circumstances. There's a powerful lesson in that: don't let your situation define your happiness.
And the weather? Absolutely perfect. After enduring the freezing New York winter, this warm climate felt like a dream. It was hot, but not the kind that drains you—thanks to the cool sea breeze that kept things comfortable.
We're staying in a stunning seven-bedroom, three-story villa that feels like something out of a dream. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls surround the space, offering uninterrupted views of the breathtaking scenery—and we're just steps away from the beach.
As we walked in, we were greeted by a spacious open-plan kitchen outfitted with sleek, state-of-the-art stainless-steel appliances. The lounge is massive and seamlessly flows into a modern bar that complements the overall design. Each floor has full bathroom facilities, and there's even a glass-walled gym and an indoor cinema for cozy movie nights.
Step outside, and you're met with a jaw-dropping view of the ocean and a large infinity pool that seems to spill right into the sea. It's the kind of place that makes you forget the rest of the world exists.
Damn, why didn't we come here sooner? I thought to myself as I wandered through the villa, soaking in every detail.
Domenico gently took my hand and led me upstairs to the third floor. We stepped into a bedroom that I assumed was ours.
"Is this our room?" I asked, needing confirmation. He could already see the excitement written all over my face.
"Yep, this is us," he said with a smile. "The guys and I will be out early and back late for the next three days. We want to wrap up the business side of things first—then we can fully relax and explore."
"Places," he finished, standing behind me as we both gazed out at the breathtaking view. His fingers gently ran through my hair, sending a wave of calm through me.
I nodded, still mesmerized. "We could lounge by the pool, hit the beach, or explore some of the local spots with great food. But seriously... why don't we just move here?" I asked, half-joking, though a part of me meant it. My question made him chuckle.
"For someone who didn't even want to come to 'the desert,' you're awfully enthusiastic now," he teased.
"I know, I know," I admitted with a grin. "I'm totally eating my words. This place is absolutely stunning."
I tugged him toward the balcony door, unable to resist the pull of the view. We stepped outside, the golden light of the setting sun bathing everything in a warm glow. It was 6:30 PM, and the sun was just beginning its slow descent into the horizon. I inhaled deeply, savoring the salty sea breeze as Domenico wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me close. Together, we stood in silence, captivated by the beauty before us.
"We're having a braai and a few drinks as the sun sets," he said, glancing at his watch. "The guys are already getting things ready downstairs."
"By the way, where is everyone's room?" I asked, still taking in the view.
