The main character Alison Montashia is the oldest sister of her two younger brothers. The youngest is three years old and the middle is Seven. She has always done everything for them and cared about them so much unlike many other siblings.
Their parents both die in an accident and she has to take responsibility for her two younger brothers. They don't have any family who will help or anything so she steps up and gets a second job while still trying to graduate high school.
She does everything in her power to give them everything herself so that they don't miss out on anything. But at one point in her senior year, a new kid transfers and he takes a liking to her. Helping her out when she is too tired to take notes in class, tutors her in math, buying her, and bringing her lunch every day because he notices she doesn't eat.
After a few months, he falls in love with her and she does too. But she is too scared to let anyone in, especially with her brothers in her responsibility. He meets her brothers and realizes how full her plate is and decides to help her take care of her brothers to lessen the load on her shoulders and give her a chance to relax for once.
A lot of drama occurs, there is jealousy, stalkers, and pain and heartache that interferes with their relationships. Everything is messy and she can't seem to toughen up to open up to someone again after her parents died but that doesn't make him back off. Even as a friend, he is there to help her with her brothers even when she is mad at him and him at her. He is always there.
