"What is going on here is someone going to tell me!" Pitaji asks again as he steps into my quarters. I don't think he noticed me standing against the door because he doesn't even glance at me.

Raghavendra turns to face my father. His jaw his clenched and his eyes look like they are flaming with anger,
"Your wife's brother broke into your daughter's quarters in the middle of the night, that's what happened. And this asshole has the audacity to lie and blame Vaidehi and degrade her after committing such a sin."

Pitaji appears to be assimilating the words, his cold eyes staring at Suryanath. "Bhai sahab, this boy is talking nonsense, do you really think I could ever do such a thing-" Suryanath's words are interrupted by my father's unexpected movement. In the next second he has pulled out a dagger and kept it at his throat. Suryanath gasps alarmed.

It almost looks like there is going to be bloodshed and I couldn't get myself to care. The world would be a better place with less monsters like him.
Just when I think my father is going to slit his throat, Devyani interrupts and pushes him away from her brother.

"Bhagawan ke liye shaant ho jaiye Maharaj!" She wails. Her brother coughs as he falls to the ground looking scared shitless. Devyani drops to the ground with him and settles his head against her shoulder.
"Atleast ask her what exactly happened. I don't think my brother is capable of something so heinous. She must have done something too."

Pitaji shakes his head at her, "Devyani, tumhare liye accha yahi rahega ki tum chup raho. Hume tumse koi salah nahi leni hai. Aur agar tum zinda rehna chahti ho toh behtar yahi rahega ki apne bhai se door ho jao, kyunki aaj iska toh akhri din nishchit hai."

"Where is Vaidehi! Find her!" She shouts suddenly. I realise she didn't notice me standing in the corner too. In a small voice I say, "I am here."

Pitaji's eyes finally turn to me, his raged gaze softening as soon as she spots me. "Vaidehi..." He sighs coming to hug me. I rest my head against his chest and a sad sob leaves me.
"I didn't do anything Pitaji, trust me. I've only ever spoken to him once since I've arrived in Saanchi. I was alone in my room when he jumped in through the window and then he touched me and....I..I swear I didn't..." I sob again. I hate the tears but they keep falling and I am too weak to stop them.

"I know. I know you didn't do anything, Veera. Don't worry, that man will not live to see another day. He was dead the second he decided to touch my daughter without her permission."

"Now can you do me a favour. Go, get dressed and maybe sleep in Radhika's room tonight. I'll take care of this okay?" He coos.
I nod. "Kill him." I tell him as a parting.

Pitaji clenches his jaw. "I told you, he is already a dead man."

"No!" Devyani screams, "She is not going to go anywhere until she tells us exactly what happened. We've heard my brother's side now let's hear hers."

Pitaji silences her. "She doesn't owe anyone an explanation. I know what happened and that's all that matters. And if you are so interested in knowing, we can talk later after I am done beheading your brother." he spits out.

"Don't take a hasty decision Maharaj. You can't just believe anything she claims. Her mother has taught her too well, she is here to destroy me and my brother is her first victim."

"Devyani kaki what is wrong with you! How can you talk like this despite being a woman. Why would any girl lie about such a thing. You do realise what a blow to their reputation a scandal like this can cause." Raghavendra grits out.
