It was yet another undignified arrival into MACUSAs portkey office having passed through several layers of the nighttime protection wards meaning they had been flung around as the magic decided whether to let them in or not.
"I am never taking a portkey again"
He heard Tina groan from somewhere over his shoulder, a rather impressive heap as she rooted around for something.
"Ah Tina, you're wands to the left"
Newt called and he watched with a private smile as her arm lunged out only to smack into Queenie before finally grabbing the sparking wand.
"Thanks"
Tina replied as Queenie made an offended sound at being hit, still face down. Content everyone appeared in one piece he stumbled onto his still swaying legs and went to help his nauseated travel companions.

It took him a moment to stagger over to get Tina and Queenie on their feet but he knew from experience to give Jacob an extra few seconds, lest he decorated the floor. Slowly he made his way over to his friend and offered a hand which was gratefully taken, thankfully he only grimaced before looking around.
"Home sweet home, huh?"
"Something like that"
Newt chuckled, steadying Jacob before setting his sights on the arrivals desk. He already had everyone's passport (some more legitimate than others) bundled up in his palm so with his usual duck-footed walk he moved up to the desk. He was pleased to see that the usual night shift worker was there. Thanks to more than enough awkward portkey times, due to time differences, he had become well acquainted with the eternally chipper desk witch. And smiled down at the paperwork scattered desk.
"Hullo Agatha"
He waited for her usual comments but instead of her usual grin as she stamped each necessary page while casually asking about how their Chief Auror was, her eyes were blown wide, tears trailing down her cheeks as she shook her head repeatedly.
"Agatha?" He asked again, this time looking slightly closer to her eyes than he would the average person just as Agatha let out a muffled sob.
"You shouldn't have come"
"What?"
"You shouldn't of-AH" Suddenly she let out a scream, jolting as if electricity had flown through her as more tears fell. At the noise, everyone had come running over and Tina had her wand out, scanning the space behind the desk. When she seemed content there were no immediate threats she relaxed her arm and gave her a comforting look.
"Miss Trimble?"
"Th-they're waiting for you"
"Who is? The president?"
"I can't say!"
Agatha sobbed, her hands moving to cover her face, and Tina froze before grasping Agatha's trembling wrist.
"Agatha, it's alright we're gonna sort it out"
Tina stated, squeezing her wrist before turning to the others with a look Newt had seen many a time before. A look he had first seen in the face of MACUSAs legal system and one which meant it was time to fight. Seamlessly he tugged his wand out of his pocket and he heard Queenie do the same as she murmured "Jakie honey stay behind me"
Tina then turned to him, her face a grim line, and he asked tentatively.
"President's office?"
"Not a chance I'm getting my Aurors first" before turning to Agatha "Get somewhere safe, okay?
Agatha nodded, still choked on a sob, before whispering
"Good luck"

Walking beside one another, they hurried through the halls towards the already shuddering lift. Ominously unmanned and they stepped on in silence.
"I don't like this at all" Jacob murmured from his side holding his fake wand between his fist as he grasped Queenie's hand with the other.
"Me neither, but I'll get my aurors and I'll call in day shift if we need backup."
Tina's voice was firm and there wasn't a sign of a tremble in her tone but as Newt looked over at her he could see amongst the fire there was a glimmer of fear. So different to the glow of her eyes as they fell asleep beside each other, and Newt felt his throat tighten at the thought.
"Tina-" he began before the tightness became too thick to work through but Tina seemed to understand as she squeezed his wand hand before turning expectantly to the door as they shuddered to a stop. Squaring her shoulders she waited as the door opened, holding her chin tall as she strode off with a sort of confidence he only knew Tina to possess into the eerily silent office.
"Aurors we have a potential code red..."
The words seemed to die on her tongue and as Newt followed her with Queenie and Jacob behind he realised why.
