Jake had always been Y/N's best friend. From the moment they met on the playground in kindergarten, they had been inseparable. They did everything together - playing video games, going on bike rides, and exploring the woods behind their houses. But as they got older, Y/N began to realize that her feelings for Jake were changing.
It wasn't until their junior year of high school that Y/N finally worked up the courage to tell Jake how she felt. They were sitting on the hood of Jake's car, watching the sunset over the lake.
"Jake," Y/N said softly, "there's something I need to tell you."
Jake turned to look at her, his eyes curious. "What is it?"
"I...I think I'm in love with you," Y/N said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jake's eyes widened in surprise. "What? Really?"
Y/N nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. She had no idea how Jake was going to react.
But to her relief, he smiled. "Y/N, I've been in love with you since we were kids."
Y/N felt tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She had always hoped that Jake felt the same way, but hearing him say it out loud was almost too much to bear.
They spent the rest of the night talking, sharing stories and dreams and secrets. Y/N felt like she was seeing Jake in a whole new light - as something more than just a friend. They held hands as they walked back to Y/N's house, and when Jake leaned in to kiss her, Y/N felt like she was on cloud nine.
