Blackbeard looked over the rail of his ship at the dark and gloomy island in front of them. In the distance, an old and rundown lighthouse could be seen through the fog surrounding the island.

"All hands on deck! Set to the longboats!" Blackbeard ordered.

...

The crew all rowed to the island and began unloading the nets.

Jack stepped out of the longboat he was in and turned and offered his hand to (Y/n). She just glared at him, and pushed his arm aside, getting up herself and walked past him.

Jack sighed. He knew she could be stubborn, and getting her to forgive him would take a lot of effort. Luckily, Jack was more than willing to accept the challenge.

"Lay them out flat! No tangles. Make 'em look pretty for our dainty guests." Blackbeard yelled. Then he looked to Angelica. "We're gonna need light. A lot of light. Come!"

He gestured for Angelica, Jack, and other sailors to follow him up to the top of the lighthouse.

Once they got to the top, one crewman looked at the metal container above them. "Smell that? Whale oil. Stuff burns like a miracle from God."

"Can you make it work?" Blackbeard asked.

"Made by the English. Let's not get our hopes up." The man replied.

The crewman got to work, while Jack looked over the rail of the lighthouse and down at the ground where the rest of the crew was.

He looked for (Y/n) and saw her standing on the beach with the Quartermaster not far from her. Blackbeard had ordered him to stay near her to keep Jack in line. One slip up, and the Quartermaster would kill her.

Angelica approached Jack and looked up at the sky. "The old moon in the arms of a new one. First of the summer. Perfect for hunting a mermaid's tear."

Jack didn't reply. He was angry at Angelica.

"Are you still sore at me Jack?" She asked.

"You knew she was watching. You set me up." He hissed.

Angelica shrugged. "I did nothing but show her the truth. You are not a one woman man, Jack. And now she knows it too."

Jack gave her a hate-filled glare and turned away from her.

Meanwhile, the crewman has lit a fire pit with his torch, and the light shined through glass creating a beacon. The sailor turned the light so it was shining down on one of the longboats that had been sent out into the water.

The longboats that had been sent out as bait.

...

While they were waiting for the mermaids to appear, Jack quickly slunk over to where (Y/n) was standing and awkwardly rocked back and forth on his heels.

"Have I ever told you how absolutely striking you look in the moonlight?"

(Y/n) rolled her eyes. "Give it up Jack. You're not going to charm your way out of this."
