Chapter 4
"No! NO!" said a strange voice. It sounded like a small child was saying it. Anna looked up.
"I think it's coming from that closet where the girl was." Said Anna, standing up off the bed. Josh got up and followed her upstairs to the room that they were in. The flashlight was on the floor rnext to where Anna had been dreaming. Anna picked up the flashlight and they went into the closet where the girl had been. Anna waved the light around. The girl wasn't there. There was still a puddle of blood where she had been but she herself was no where to be found.
"She's not here!" said Anna sounding very alarmed. "She-She's not here!" she repeated. Josh looked over her shoulder. Anna was right. "How c-could she not be here???" Anna asked herself.
"STOP, STOP!" the child's voice sounded once again. Anna looked around. Her eyes looking around for where the voice had come from.
"Maybe she's not dead." Said Josh, "Maybe she was just hurt and was lying there." Anna looked at Josh. She started across the hall trying to locate where the girl was.
"No mother! Please!" the voice went off again. Anna heard the voice and knew she was getting closer. Suddenly, they saw a girl with short black hair with a pink bow in it. She had grey eyes as if she were blind and she was wearing a dirty blue jacket with blood on the back. She was wearing blue levis with holes in the knees. "Mother? Is that you?" she said. "Mother please don't hurt me. I'll stop talking." Anna looked at Josh looking confused.
"Uh It's okay." Anna tried to say to the girl, "We're not going to hurt you. Who are you? What is your name?"
"M-my name is Jenna." Said the girl, "My mother started to yell at me when I asked too many questions about our new house. I'm sorry, I am blind and I thought you were her." Jenna walked up to Anna and Josh. She stood next to Anna. "Are you going to keep me safe?" she asked in a very small voice. Anna looked over at Josh and he smiled and nodded.
"Its okay," said Anna putting her arm around Jenna, "we'll help you." Jenna shrank down. "Jenna, do you know a lot about this house? How long have you been here?" Jenna thought for a little bit.
"I don't really know. My mother, brother and I came here together. She told me that we lived in a beautiful mansion. My brother told me that she was lying. He said it was a horrible place and no one had lived here for at least a hundred years until we moved in. I started to ask my mother about the house. I asked her what every room looked like. She told me that her room had a white bed. But my brother told me the bed was covered in blood. I started to get scared so I asked my mom about leaving the place. She told me that she would hurt me if I asked her anymore about the house." The little girl covered her eyes and started whimpering.
"Then my mother threatened to kill my brother. And she did. Then she kicked me in the back and through me in that place over there." Jenna tried to hold back her tears.
Anna frowned and asked, "What was your brother's name, Jenna?"
"Luke," she said, "His name was Luke. But I lost him."
"Jenna, why don't you come with me. I'll have you sit in this room for a while okay?" said Anna, leading Jenna to Mary's room. Josh looked at her, confused. "I'll explain this soon." Anna whispered to Josh. Josh nodded and Anna had Jenna sit on the bed in Mary's room, dragging Josh over to tell him her plan, "We're going to have to leave Jenna here." She said.
Josh looked upset, "We can't just leave her! Her mom will kill her!" he shouted sounding scared for the little girl.
Anna rolled her eyes, "You don't get it, do you? Something is here. I don't think that Jenna's mom hurt her."
"She said it herself!" exclaimed Josh, "She said that her mother kicked her in that back and stuffed her in the closet!"
"Josh, she's blind. It could have been anything. We don't know if we can trust what she's saying." Anna had worry in her voice as she spoke. Josh looked like he finally understood. Anna was right, they had to realize that Jenna couldn't see if that was really her mother.
THUMP a loud crash came from down stairs alarming the kids. Jenna came out of the room.
"What was that?" she whined.
Anna looked over and said, "It's okay, it's probably just another pan falling, right Josh?" Anna was trying to reassure Jenna that everything was okay even though there was probably something in the house. It was going to hunt them down and Anna knew it. Footsteps sounded as if they were heading towards the people.
"Josh! Behind you!" yelled Anna backing away. Josh quickly spun around. He didn't see anything behind him. He turned back to Anna
"Anna don't scare me like that!" yelled Josh getting mad at Anna for joking him at such a serious moment.
"Josh you can't see it? It's right there!" Anna was pointing at a foggy figure that was heading straight for Josh. Anna couldn't do anything but push Josh out of the way and duck, the figure had something with it that could have hurt them. When Josh was on the floor, she dragged him into Mary's room along with Jenna who was standing in the clearing looking confused since she couldn't see what was going on. Anna slammed the door behind them and flattened herself down, her back against the door. "Josh it had something with it! It was going to kill you!" Josh looked at Anna like she had gone mad.
"Anna there was nothing there." He said. All of a sudden, Anna's eyes looked like they had fell back into her head. They were empty and consumed.
"Josh, how lovely to see you." She said in a different voice. It sounded scraggly and horrifying. Anna swung her head around. "Josh, won't you follow me?" she said. Josh looked at her. He looked at where her eyes were meant to be.
